Added usable physics-based mortars to Fallout 4's construction mode.
Required mod:
remote control explosives
Recommended mod:
Bullet Time - Slow Time
Production location:
Furniture > Miscellaneous.
How to use:
Start by placing the mortar and crafting the mortar lock and mortar pellets.
Next, you must aim the mortar using the mortar lock. The mortar barrel should spawn facing upwards, this is to allow you to place the mortar lock inside the mortar lock pawl. Allows you to align the mortar's vertical trajectory. Select the appropriate locking pawl on the mortar and slide the mortar lock through. (An easier way is to just make a mortar lock). Once the mortar lock is in place, you need to use any physical object to slap the mortar barrel off.
Once you've targeted the mortar's vertical trajectory, you can target its rotation. To do this, get a physics object, such as a dropped gun, etc. and push the physics object into the mortar lock. Since the mortar lock is now locked into the mortar itself, this should rotate the entire mortar, helping you aim.
Next, you want to make some Remote Explosives using the Remote explosives mod. I recommend a decorator and a bunch of C-4 plastic explosives. C-4 plastic explosives are not necessarily used to propel mortar pellets, but rather to detonate them.
Next, you'll need to toss a bunch of standard frag mines from the original game into a mortar barrel. I recommend about 5-10 (depending on the height of the vertical trajectory you choose, you may need to make a platform to reach the barrel).
After stuffing a bunch of mines into the mortar barrel, you'll need to push a C-4 plastic explosive into the barrel.
Once the C-4 is loaded, you will eventually need to load the mortar rounds by picking them up and inserting them into the barrel.
Then just stand back, use the elaborate detorator, and detonate the mortar. The explosive/frictionless barrel combination should propel the mortar pellet.
Notice:
If you save before the explosion and find that when you load the game, all the mines fall to the floor outside the barrel, I've found that simply loading the save again seems to fix the problem.
If you want to see mortar explosions in slow motion, I would recommend the Bullet Time - Slow Time mod.
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
