AUTOMATRON EYEBOT Companion
When the Automatron was announced, I was ecstatic to once again travel with my favorite Mojave companions. I entered the game because I was told there were buildable EyeBots at the end, only to be extremely disappointed with basically getting mission bots that wouldn't accompany me on my journey into hell (especially the first one that was sent to Medford Bloody Memorial Hospital for the hundredth time).
Anyway, I really, really wanted to hang out with my little buddy again so I decided that if Bethesda wasn't going to do the right thing, I would do it myself. Here we are.

what it can do
Add EyeBots to Robot Workbench. They work like any other robot companion and come with extensive customization options, including extensive aesthetic options and radio playback, numerous effects, and the ability to be used with other robot legs (although they look a little weird). Yes, it includes Sonya's frame (excavator frame + excavator paint), and yes, thanks to mkdo40's generous textures (whose mod mod Imports you should check if you find yourself missing Mojave) there's now a Duraframe (ED-E!) with optional nameplates and stickers. AEC is designed to feel like a regular part of the game without forcing itself.
Clearly, AEC needs Automatron.
Installation instructions
Bottom line: if you haven't already, follow this guide here to enable the mod properly.
If you experience crashes when selecting EyeBot mods, make sure you have the following three lines in your Fallout4Custom.ini:
My Files\My Games\Fallout4\
[Archive]
bInvalidateOlderFiles=1
sResourceDataDirsFinal=
Now onto the mod installation instructions:
Install mods manually or via your mod manager, just like anyone else (I tried to name the fomod folders wisely for the former set). I use NMM and test its stuff, for what it's worth.
Before you install it, manually back up your save (I'm not sure if Survival detects this, but if not, I would recommend it for AEC and any other mods you install.)
Once in the game, you just need to wait a few seconds for the formlist updater script to run before using the robot workbench (it runs on every load but checks if every change is needed so that for future loads the wait should not be necessary unless something messes up the form. In the meantime, read the one-time warning message about uninstalling: this is very important, as if you uninstall without following specific instructions, you will break the robot workbench - irreparably!
Once you get a message in the upper left corner of the screen saying the installation is complete, you're ready to get started.
I highly recommend trying to modify the mod immediately after installing it to decide if you want to keep it - obviously this means waiting until you have access to the Robot Workbench (the mod will edit it and install it immediately on first load, even if you don't have access to RW), and maybe you can use the cheat recipes plugin if you want to see the full capabilities of the mod. If you decide you don't like it, quit the game, delete the mod and revert to the save before installation (this doesn't require using an unin …
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
