Another Hoodless Field Scribe Hat (Armorsmith Patch Availabl Hat
I'm well aware of the existence of similar mods, Hoodless BOS Field Scribe Hats and Hoodless Field Scribe Hats.
However, there are some things I don't like about these mods:
- To some extent, they all leave some cover on the mesh
- The bottom of the hat is open, although realistically it leaves some weird empty space for some of the character's head shapes.
- Does not include patch for Armorsmith Extended, but includes .esps to make hair show underneath.
Additionally, I found that exporting the same mesh multiple times from Outfit Studio actually reduced the smoothness of the mesh, causing some polygons on the mesh to be lost, causing it to look more jagged in certain areas where it wasn't there before. I was very careful to avoid this, so in terms of 3D quality this one should look exactly like the default mesh.
So, I'm taking my own hat off to Field Scribe's and it's more of my personal preference:
- The bottom of the hat is completely sealed, so it should look like it fits perfectly on any character's head.
- No trace of the original hood remains, not even where you would normally see it.
- I've reshaped the meshes as by default they are already slightly shaped to fit the shape of the hood underneath.
- I also adjusted the angle at which the hat sits on the character's head so that it tilts forward, since by default it also tilts slightly upward due to the hood.
- The included .esp is for the hair to show under the hat since the hood is no longer there. I've also included an Armorsmith patch for users of Armorsmith Extended. If you don't want the hair to appear under the hat, just don't install or activate the .esp as that is the only purpose.
I'm not a modeler by any means, so how to seal the hat to the bottom might look a little odd, shading wise. It's hardly noticeable however, as the idea here is just to make the edges look as if they fit perfectly into the character's head.
This mod will replace the vanilla Field Scribe hat, meaning it will be worn by the Steelfield Scribes fraternity, and it is not a unique item.
I only tested this hat on a few hairstyles. Unfortunately, most, if not all, vanilla female hairstyles may clip with the base of the hat, but I think this looks fine in most cases, considering the size required to prevent all the tailoring of the female character from making the hat look unsettling. However, most men's hairstyles should be fine.
If there is a cut on a vanilla male hairstyle, please let me know and tell me which hairstyle is the offender so I can copy it to make adjustments.
Several hours of work went into this mod, so please, enjoy!

However, there's a few things I dislike about these mods:
-To some extent, both of them leave some of the hood behind on the mesh
-The bottom of the hat is open, and while realistic, it leaves some strange looking empty space on some character heads' shapes.
-Neither include a patch for Armorsmith Extended, but include.esps for making hair show up underneath.
Additionally, I've discovered that exporting the same mesh from Outfit Studio multiple times actually degrades the smoothness of the mesh, causing some polygons on the mesh to be lost, resulting in it looking more jagged in some areas where it wasn't before. I took great care to avoid that, so this one should look exactly like the default mesh in terms of 3D quality.
So, I took it upon myself to remove the hood from the Field Scribe's Hat myself, and more to my own personal liking:
-The bottom of the hat is completely sealed, so it should appear as a perfect fit on the head of any character.
-No trace of the original hood is left, not even where it normally wouldn't be visible.
-I've tweaked the shape of the meshes because by default they've been shaped slightly to accommodate for the shape of the hood underneath.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
