About this mod Machine translation

This mod remodels all cooking stations to add better functionality and adds several new cooking stations. You can find them under the Crafting workshop menu - they have [BCS] appended to their names for easy identification.

All cooking stations that can be exercised can be switched to private or public to prevent NPCs from using them, so you can reserve them exclusively for you and your followers. This also helps prevent settler sandboxes from entering your player homes and using your radio stations.

In v2.0 you can also assign settlers to work at each cooking station and they will become food vendors. You can still craft recipes at cooking stations that have been assigned to settlers! The assigned stations will increase settlement happiness bonuses and food supplies.

All cooking stations have built-in working fire, sound, smoke, hot light, embers, sparks, flickering light and shadows.

Added permanent flames under the cookable cooking spit, as well as a new sizzling sound. The vanilla spit misfired bit by bit. Also replaces all pre-made cooking spits placed in the game.

Added a new cookable cooking spit with FEV Hound Roast.

Added new animations to the cooking pot so it swings on the chain and the pieces of meat swing on the meat hook. Also replaces all pre-made cooking pots placed in the game.

Added a new cooking station based on the super mutant cooking pot, modified to fit the player cooking animation.

Add gas flames, oven glow and smoke to your cooking stove for added eye candy clutter.

Add working pre-war and post-war player kitchen stove cooking stations with illuminated stove elements and ovens. Sizzling steak cooking animation with sounds. Already added a step on the stove so the animation doesn't get clipped. These stoves require electricity to work (just place a live connector near the stove). Bonus: The stove can complement the Modular Kitchen.

Added new models and textures (glossy black and chrome), gas flames, smoke, flashing lights and shadows and more for pre-war and post-war gas grill cooking stations. Sizzling steak cooking animation with sounds, carefully tuned to avoid cuts. Does not affect the herb grill.

Place a small cooking pot over low heat and add to the pot to simmer. The vanilla has no flame effect and the pot is empty.

Cooking stoves, cooking spits, and cooking fires no longer require the crafting of local leaders. It is illogical to ask for this privilege anyway.

Mod is compatible with all my other mods that affect fire lighting. This mod uses custom lights and does not affect or be affected by other light mods.

If you use the Far Harbor or Mojave import patches, you'll get a new working picnic grill and a new grill with radish sauce.

New recipe categories were introduced in v2.0 as well as a new "Logical Cooking" system - some recipe categories are only available on certain cooking stations, for example you won't be able to cook soup or omelette on a grilled spit, or cook a steak in a cooking pot.

troubleshooting:

Some fans will not use these stations when ordered. You just have to keep trying, it's a glitch in the game. You can also try moving the cooking station to another location, as this may be an issue with the vanilla navigation mesh at that location.

Sometimes certain smoke and spark effects don't appear as expected. The game engine tends to strip out certain effects at certain settlement locations for better performance.

If you use Commonwealth Orphans, load up on better cooking stations. Orphans of the Commonwealth edit cooking stations unnecessarily, causing conflicts.

Loading Order: Place better cooking stations in your loading order, but after the Orphans of the Federation. Place Mojave imports, logical recipes, animated drinking and choosing to chop after better cooking stations. Then put the patch after those mods.

If you can't handle all the new features and possible incompatibilities, the original v1.0 version is still available for download.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
