REAI: Artificial Intelligence Army and Manpower Reform (1.3 and 1.2 updates)
REAI:人工智能军队与人力改革(1.3与1.2更新)
About this mod Machine translation
Does the vanilla AI fail at being unable to mobilize large late-game armies? Did the major powers emerge during the Reformation era with little more than a handful of regular armies and a bunch of hungry peasant levies because they simply "forgot" to build armories and barracks?
REAI: Army and Manpower Reform (AAMO) is a highly optimized, targeted script module designed to address mid- to late-game military stagnation. It forces major powers to sincerely invest (100% no cheating!) in their military infrastructure (barracks/ordnance depots and regular armies with new updates) in order to efficiently utilize their human resources and build large professional standing armies.

---New update: Active recruitment ---
As you guys know, REAI has never relied on those cheap "generate free troops or buildings out of thin air" cheats that vanilla or other mods use.
Proactive and fair military recruitment:
I wrote a custom script that teaches the main AI nation how to spend their resources proactively. They won't get free units. Instead, they will generate an appropriate historical army composition in the capital, but the exact real gold and manpower costs must be paid in advance.
In order to ensure that the artificial intelligence does not go bankrupt and plays reasonably, the system has strict safety locks. AI will only recruit if:
- Their monthly balance is 100 or higher.
- Their manpower reserves are at least 50% full.
-Their monthly manpower to restore health is around 500+.
No cheating, just smart spending. Let me know how the new AI system performs in your campaign!
🔗 Compatibility and Synergy (Make sure to read!!!)
Do I need the main REAI mod to make this work?
unnecessary. AAMO is a 100% independent submod. It has its own logic and works well on its own.
However, use with the core REAI (Rational Empire Artificial Intelligence) mod is highly recommended.
⚠️Wait, why? Isn't it...
Do the major REAI mods already do this?
Good question! The core REAI module changes the "brain" (definition and weighting) of the AI. It teaches the AI to want regular armies instead of levies, and fixes their economy so that it has the budget to take on these troops.
However, the game engine has a flaw: the AI can "want" huge armies all day long, but if it forgets to build barracks and armories, then its manpower pool will remain tiny, meaning it will never be able to recruit more regular troops. This is exactly why the vanilla AI can't build a large professional army - unless it randomly decides to build a human resources building by chance, it will never reach that large number of regular troops.
Difference: The main REAI mod provides brains and budget. AAMO provides the muscle. AAMO uses hard scripts to force the AI to actually build the required HR buildings.
🛡️ 100% CHEAT FREE: Best of all, AAMO does it without cheating! Unlike many AI mods that simply generate free buildings out of thin air, this mod forces the AI to pay the exact same price as a human player. The script dynamically reads all cost modifiers, inflation and building cost increases from other mods etc. There’s no magic money, no free money generated – just sound, calculated investment.
You need both mods to create a true late game experience.
🚀 Core functions
🏗️ Rational military construction
Target Scope: To keep the game highly optimized, the script specifically targets the real powers: all European powers with country rank 2 and above (i.e. Dukes and above), as well as the Ottoman Empire, Mamluks, Morocco and Tunisia. Random Horde or Ming Dynasty will not waste CPU cycles running this logic. (I can add content from around the world later if people want it).
Smart Priority: AI checks its balance and active progress every year. It prioritized the construction of military barracks. If barracks are unavailable, it will redirect investment to armories.
Anti-death spiral logic: Only when the monthly balance of artificial intelligence is abnormally …
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
