The engine chooses the correct language for each region based on in-game naming rules and active cultures. All supported languages are included in this one MOD - no need to install multiple ones.
The English language is here fully reimagined: the entire world is renamed, just as English colonists discovered and named every inch of the land. Bordeaux becomes Waterside, Rome becomes Romeford, and Beijing becomes Kingscross. Latin is the historical dimension - the real Latin names of Rome, the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. Old Norse/Norn is a third reimagining: assuming the Vikings colonized every inch of the land - Constantinople became Miklagarðr, Moscow became Móskvuborg, York became Jórvík, and Jerusalem became Jórsalaheim. French/Francophone is the fourth reimagining: assuming that France colonized every inch of the land. Real historical French nicknames anchor everything - Pékin for Beijing, Moscow, London, Cairo, Tombouctou, Nouvelle-Orléans, Saint-Pétersbourg, Pondichéry, Saïgon, Tananarive - the rest are colonial French names (Saint-X, New-X, Port-X, Fort-X, Cape-X, Island-X, Mountain-X, Bay-X, River-X), ending in sense-formation rather than the universal -ville.
Pair Latin with the Latin cultural movement in Phoenix's Fate.
Requires setup. In the new game settings, set the location naming option to Owner's Dominant Culture or Location's Dominant Culture - not 'Standard English'. Then play a country whose main culture is one of the supported cultures, or any country whose region has those populations (under 'Location's Dominant Culture').
source
Each name is either documented in historical literature (ancient Roman authors, medieval chroniclers, Jesuit and Catholic missionaries, Mercator/Ortelius and Renaissance cartographers, Marco Polo, Cook and Rogge, East India Company atlases) or has been carefully reconstructed through toponymic patterns in the source language itself. No naive '-um' suffixes to foreign roots, no anachronistic modern names.
Compatibility: Addable mode only. No replace_paths, no conflict with any other MOD.
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
