Elden Mod Loader
There used to be a similar general guide here, but it was removed or made private, so I decided to add it back to the site because I saw someone concerned about not being able to use mods on Linux. This is a little more complicated than on Windows, but nothing particularly difficult. I've provided a screenshot of the mod directory.

How to use Elden Mod Loader and Mod Engine 2 together on Linux (or Windows)
🎮 **A complete mod installation guide for Linux and Windows systems**
🌟 Preparation
First install the anti-cheat toggle tool:
Add `toggle_anti_cheat.exe` as a non-Steam game and make sure you start it before trying to use the Mod Loader! ⚠️ NOTE: This tool will take you completely offline to ensure safety.
📁 File Management
Make sure the "Show hidden files and folders" option is checked in your desktop environment's file manager.
🔧 Mod Engine 2 installation
Unzip modengine in the ELDEN RING folder (not in the GAME folder) and it will automatically detect the game. Add `launchmod_eldenring.bat` as a non-Steam game and set the launch command to: `WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dinput8=n,b" %command%`
💡 **PATH EDITING TIP**: If the game is installed on an SD card or a different drive, you may need to edit the `launchmod_eldenring.bat` file to point to the correct eldenring.exe path.
🗂️ Module folder structure
Most Mod Engine 2 mods contain folders such as chr/event/map/action, just paste them into the modengine folder and they will work automatically. Be careful to avoid mod conflicts, individual mods usually won't conflict unless you are using a large remastered mod that contains all these folders.
🔄 Dual loader settings
When working with Elden Mod Loader and Mod Engine 2 at the same time, you need to duplicate the first alphabetical mod and its .dll file in the EML configuration, but with different names, and put them at the top of the load order to avoid issues with the first mod failing to load.
⚙️ Configuration file management
All EML mods must be added to the elden mod loader's config.ini file in order, otherwise they will not load. Seamless co-op mods work with all other mods too!
💾 Archive file processing
**Very important! ** You need to copy the game save and Seamless save to the new compatdata directory. Make sure to launch the game through modengine until you accept the terms, then exit and paste your save file into the appropriate directory.
🛠️ Advanced Tools
**JDSD's ER Tool**: A speedrunning tool that can learn specific boss patterns and combos, turn off gravity for screenshots, freeze AI for cinematic scenes, etc. It can be used by installing SteamTinker Launch through Protonup-QT.
**DSMS Tool**: used to merge modules into the regulation.bin file. Create a new project, point to the game .exe file, and use the parameter editor to import the mod which is mostly just a CSV tweak.

💻 Windows system differences
The basic steps are the same: get the anti-cheat switcher, download Mod Engine 2 and Elden Mod Loader, place the files and edit the configuration the same way. The main differences are:
- No need to add anything for non-Steam games
- Just run the file directly
- The archive directory is in AppData/Roaming/EldenRing
Hope this guide helps you all! 🚀
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
