Ashes of War - cast spells
✨ **New War Ash Mod that allows any weapon to cast spells** ✨
🎯 Core Functions
This mod adds a special War Ash that allows any enchantable melee weapon (excluding shields) to be used as a spell catalyst! You only need to spend 500 runes to buy this war ashes from the merchant Kaler.
🔮 Technical challenges and solutions
FromSoftware did not originally design the weapon to be used as a catalyst. Spell damage mainly depends on the **correction** of the catalyst rather than the base damage, and most weapons have high base damage but low correction, which results in extremely low spell damage.
To fix this, I've rebalanced Fire Arts, Holy, and Magic enchantments, and added multiple new enchantment types specifically built for different attribute configurations and genres.
🆕 New enchantment type
- **Lava** - Intelligence, fire damage
- **Thorns** - Faith, magic damage
- **Cultist** - Faith, lightning damage
- **Piety** - Faith, physical damage
- **Gravity** - Strength/Intelligence, Physical/Magical Damage
- **Communion** - Faith/Telepathy, Fire/Lightning Damage
- **Bloodfire** - Faith/Sense, fire damage
- **Finger** - Intelligence/Sense, Magic Damage
- **Ghost Fire** - Intelligence/Faith, Magic Damage
- **Gold** - Intelligence/Faith, Holy attribute damage
All new enchantment types are available from the start, no unlocking required!
⚖️ Balance adjustment
Each weapon's original modifiers are preserved to some extent, and spell damage will vary based on the modifiers of the weapon itself. Weapons with higher modifiers will have higher spell damage, while weapons with lower modifiers will have lower spell damage. At the maximum enhancement level, spell correction is approximately in the range of 280-320.
⚠️ IMPORTANT NOTES
**Spell combos may be slowed down or completely unavailable** as the game recognizes the input as a combat action first, then a spell action. However, the first cast is completely unaffected, and in most cases you won't notice the problem.
🛠️ Installation instructions
Install using ModEngine2. Place the file (containing all the contents of regulation.bin) into ModEngine2's mod folder.
**Script-Data-Exposer-FS is required to correctly update spell switching**. Place the dll file into the ModEngine2 folder and include it in the "external_dlls" entry of config_eldenring.
🎮Using experience
Now you can cast spells with any weapon you like! Whether it's a giant sword mage or a dagger priest, you can find a gameplay that suits you. While some of the spells may look a little strange visually (as they were originally designed for wand/sigil use), most of the spells work just fine.

**Updates in version 1.0.1:**
- Disabled the use of this war gray on shields
- New enchantment types are enabled by default and no longer require a whetstone to unlock
- The base damage of Gravity and Communion enchantments is increased at +0 level
- Removed redundant parameter folders
Enjoy this new way to cast spells!
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
