Laudanum treats stress

✨ Module Introduction

This mod makes some small changes to the in-game item **Laudanum** to make it more useful while maintaining game balance.

---

📜 Function details

The mod makes the following adjustments to Laudanum:

  • **Retain original function**: Can still be used to remove **Horror** effect.
  • **New usage conditions**: Now you can use it even if you are **not** affected by fear.
  • **New healing effect**: Each bottle can **heal 5 points of pressure damage**.
  • **Price Adjustment**: Price adjusted from 100 gold coins to 150 gold coins.
  • **DESCRIPTION UPDATED**: The item's tooltip description has been updated accordingly.

⚠️ About continuous use

  • If you are in urgent need of healing pressure, you can use all the vials in a row for one character. But once you get into this habit, when you really need it to **cure your fear**, there may be no cure.
  • If you built the **Tainted Well** area from the DLC, you will **not** be able to use it continuously (see below).

🏗️Interaction with the "Well of Corruption" area

This mod is compatible with and without the Color of Madness DLC.

If you build the **Well of Corruption** area, you will get an additional **-40% Pressure (lasts for 3 turns)** buff when using Laudanum. The mod **does not change** this effect, it just adds 5 points of pressure healing to it.

It should be noted that after building this area, you will not be able to use Laudanum again for 3 turns while the pressure buff lasts. This was the setting for the original game, and I think it balances out the benefits well, otherwise you'd be getting strong stress reduction effects in a row.

💡 Original intention of creation

I made this mod mainly for my own use, but I also want to share it with players who have the same needs.

My thoughts are this: Laudanum is the kind of item that most players **rarely buy** and **hardly** even consider bringing into a dungeon (except in a few special cases). I wanted to make it more useful without destroying the balance.

Pressure is a core mechanic of the game, and any changes must be made with caution. Therefore, I only gave Laudanum a **minor amount** of stress healing, and didn't want to make it seem superior to those **positive quirks that resist stress** or **camp skills that heal stress**.

Price adjustments are also about rebalancing. Buying Laudanum plays a more important role in the **early** to **mid game** when you're not rich, but may be in dire need of extra stress healing (especially when the enemy is focusing on a character trying to crumble it).

By the **late game**, 5 healing per vial may not seem like much, but if you build Well of Corruption, the **-40% Pressure** buff you get will provide more meaningful protection in the short term. This mod allows you to use this buff at any time (in the original version you had to wait for the fear effect to appear before you can "use" it), but the buff only lasts for 3 turns and cannot be used continuously during this period, which I think is an interesting trade-off.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
