Set the scope of vassal participation in the war according to the opening rules, which can make every war between major powers comparable to the Great Holy War (if the computer is not good, selectively enable the rules, otherwise it will be very stuck in the later stage)

Experience massive civil wars, powerful sub-domain dynamics, and a powerful and stable AI empire to rival players. This mod makes the game more difficult overall, but also makes forming and maintaining large realms more rewarding.

Large kingdoms now feel powerful because an empire can muster tens of thousands of troops from its bordering vassal states (sub-kingdoms) to defend or conquer neighboring countries without even increasing its own army, but powerful empires can also easily fall apart and descend into all-out civil war.

There are seven new game rules that enable or disable these features, so you can choose which game you want to play. AI will use all these capabilities as well.

The Declare War screen displays a list of major and minor vassals that will join the war as attackers or defenders (hover the mouse over the Declare War button after selecting a reason for war).

Improved Civil War

Inspired by CK2 AGOT's Megawar, each vassal in the kingdom will be called upon to choose their side in a civil war (freedom, independence, claim, tyranny).

Each vassal has the right to choose to support their monarch (declared king), remain neutral, or oppose their monarch. Civil wars are now large-scale conflicts involving entire kingdoms, with many of the major vassal states fighting each other for supremacy. The masses who declare support for the rebels will join and benefit from the factions waging the civil war.

Management of domestic affairs and positive relations with princely states were now more important. The king must strike a balance between focusing on external issues and internal issues. Allying and maintaining strong, positive relationships with their most powerful vassals is crucial to staying in power, even if the rest of the kingdom hates them.

AI improvements

This feature makes the AI realm significantly better at expanding and maintaining its empires and kingdoms. Feudal kingdoms will be more defensive and form powerful sub-kingdoms (kings-vassals) within their empires to protect their territories from expansionist neighbors, while clans and tribes will be more prone to civil wars but very aggressive in expanding their kingdoms and forming powerful empires.

With this feature enabled, players will have a more challenging gaming experience as powerful AI empires will form throughout the game. AI fields may still fall apart (especially if the AI field is likely to splinter into multiple empires), but they will still be more stable than ordinary fields.

Frontier Fleet joins the war

Whenever a ruler declares war, all vassals (sub-kingdoms) of the two kingdoms (attacker and defender) that border the opposing kingdom will join the war. This means that any princely state that directly or indirectly holds a title adjacent to the opposing kingdom by land border or sea will join the war.

Kingdoms and empires will now be more powerful, as a large kingdom with many powerful sub-kingdoms (kings or dukes) on its borders will bring huge power to offensive and defensive wars. Principalities and kingdoms on the border that join the war will also bring their own direct vassals into any conflict.

Maintaining a strong sub-realm near your borders (principality or kingdom) is a powerful offensive and defensive option, as they will be able to muster tens of thousands of troops to fight in all wars in the region. A vassal state can also bring its own border vassal states into war with other vassal states or external enemies.

Strong empires and kingdoms with their vassals may not even need their own armies to conquer or defend their neighbors if they are strong enough.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
