Rush's Religion Rebalance

So it's no secret that religiosity is a bit lacking in this game. Many people who play multiplayer games don't even bother to embrace religion because it's not worth the effort. The Holy Land is also one of the worst areas to play in as it just spreads your religion for very small benefit.

This mod improves the situation by adding new beliefs and changing some old ones, resulting in a very powerful effect and giving you a good reason to make a shrine. New buildings in particular are very solid and will encourage you to build a sacred place if you can establish good adjacency with it.

Predator creates faith changes:

Cathedral: +3 Faith, +1 Comfort, 3 Art slots (any kind), 2 Great Artist points

Gurdwara: +3 Faith, +2 Housing, from Holy Land

Bonus food for meeting room adjacency bonus: +3 Faith, +2 Great Engineer Points, Holy Land

Mosque Adjacency Bonus Bonus Production: +3 Faith to all units trained in this city +25% combat experience from the Holy Land

Pagoda's adjacency bonus rewards culture: +3 Faith, +1 Comfort, applies to all cities within 6 tiles

Synagogue: +3 Faith, +2 Great Merchant Points, +1 Trade Route

Wat: +3 Faith, +2 Great Scientist points, Bonus Science from Holy Land adjacency bonus

Spoilers Other changes:

Following beliefs:

Divine Inspiration: Miracles provide +3 Faith, Science and Culture (improved from +4 Faith)

Feed World: Shrines and Temples each provide +3 Food and +1 Housing (+4 Food from Shrines improves +4 from Temples)

Religious Communities: All professional districts (except holy sites) receive a +3 adjacency bonus of the appropriate type when adjacent to at least one holy site.

Founder’s beliefs:

Placement Ministry: Each shrine or theater square area in a city after this religion provides +2 Faith or +2 Culture respectively. (from +1 each)

Stewardship: Each campus or central business district in a city that follows this religion provides +2 Science or +2 Gold respectively. (from +1 each)

A note about adjacency bonuses: This has the same effect as the Arabian unique building Madrasa, except this mod copies the faith bonus into the new resource. Interestingly, this also applies to beliefs gained from religious city-states. Therefore, a Holy Land with a +3 adjacency bonus and +6 more faith from the city-state will have a +9 sum, and will also give +9 to any building using that adjacency. Now let me just say that this is completely intentional.

As always, let me know what you think and post it here if there are any bugs so I can fix it.

So it's no secret that religious beliefs are a little lacking in this game. Many who play multiplayer don't even bother getting a religion since it's not worth the effort. Holy sites are also one of the worst districts to get since it just gives faith to spread your religion for really minor benefits.

This mod improves the situation by adding new beliefs and changing some old beliefs to give very strong effects and give you a good reason to make holy sites. The new buildings in particularly are incredibly strong and will encourage you to build a holy site if you can get good enough adjacency for it.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
