Military Doctrines / Promotion System Rework Promotion System Revision
This mod improves the promotion/experience system to make it more meaningful and realistic.
Steam link
I recommend using this with CQUI if you're not already using it, as launchbar uses code for compatibility reasons.
How Doctrine Works
*Units automatically receive strength promotions based on the XP they earn. Regulars, Veterans, Season Veterans, Combat Veterans and Elites.
*There is now a brand new doctrine group with six doctrine trees including Infantry, Scout, Cavalry, Ranged, Naval and Air.
*Each unit class is divided into these categories. XP gained from that unit's combat will focus their XP in that category. However, some doctrines may apply to courses outside this category.
*If you gain enough XP, you can unlock a new doctrine from the tree. Once the transition is over, this principle will apply to all of your units and future units.
*Currently there are 3 doctrine tiers (the last one gives the best bonus). To choose a doctrine from the next tier, you must have at least two doctrines from the previous tier.
*The AI does use these and they can gain XP fairly quickly, so be aware
*Civilization has more doctrines and then others will have a very big advantage as in real life, so don't ignore their importance.
Other changes
- Terracotta Warriors instead of offering free promotion to all units now offer +3 great general points (previously 1).
*Hetairoi starts with +10XP (regular promotion) instead of free promotion.
Religion and espionage choose capable promotions
You can't choose promotions, which means spies and religious units don't get promotions either. I'm keeping it that way for now, and if anyone has suggestions on how to incorporate them into a body of doctrine then I'd be happy to hear them. My personal opinion is that the spy unit promotion is another annoying thing I hit late in the game, it doesn't do much and the religion promotion, while useful doesn't seem to fit religious units and is randomly unfair. I'd rather get these promotions/abilities through tech, citizens, wonders, buildings, etc. Maybe I'm wrong about these assumptions.
compatibility
*This mod may not work with anything that changes LaunchBar.xml or LaunchBar.lua. It should be compatible with CQUI since the last update!
other
I test everything I can, but something like this has a lot of code, a lot of tables, save compatibility and AI, so there's bound to be some issues. If there is an internal error, I will ask you to upload a save and describe your problem and which modules are activated.
This mod revamps the promotion/experience system to be both more meaningful and more realistic.

How Doctrines Work
- Units automatically receive strength promotions based upon their XP gained. Regulars, Veterans, Season Veterans, Battle-Hardened Veterans and Elite.
- There is now a completely new doctrines panel with six doctrine trees Infantry, Recon, Cavalry, Ranged, Naval and Air.
- Each unit class is split into those categories. XP gained from combat with that unit will pool their XP in that category. Some doctrines however can apply to classes outside of the category.
- If you earn enough XP you can unlock a new doctrine from the tree. This doctrine will apply to all of your units and future units after the turn is over.
- There are currently 3 doctrine tiers (the last giving the best bonuses). In order to select a doctrine from the next tier you must have at least 2 doctrines from the previous tier.
- The AI does use these and they can gain XP fairly fast so beware
- Civilizations that have more doctrines then others will have a very big advantage like in real life so don't neglect the importance of them.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
