Next City Plot by Ace

This version is of no value as the Civilization 6 update (game v1.0.0.38) as of 2016-11-18 already includes the ability to display the next tile the city will grow to.

But if I find some inspiration to extend the functionality of the vanilla game - I'll come up with a 3.x version of this.

Please check back later.

This model shows you when and where cities will expand to the next point of growth in cultural boundaries.

Currently, markers are available in the Buy Tiles and Manage Citizens city screens.

I'm open to any suggestions for improving this little mod.

Have your say in the mod discussion thread I frequently read.

Please take a moment to vote on some of my features

Thank you for all your kind words and input on the mod's functionality.

II. feature

Spoilers:

The next episode shows how the city will expand as the next cultural frontier grows.

Shows the number of turns before the cultural boundary grows.

Supports localization strings based on text already in the core localization files.

Available for purchasing tiles and managing citizen screens.

Also applies to strategic perspectives.

III. Known Quirks

Spoilers:

The next plot is only shown on the second turn after the city is placed. This is a feature of the Civ6 game engine where the variable pCityCulture:GetNextPlot() is only populated after a turn. I should look into it.

The next figure given may change with each turn, this is part of the game mechanics. For example: 5 turns in a row, the next plot marker says Roma wants to expand to Stone, but before the actual border grows, the marker switches to Rice, and City gets Rice the next turn. It's not a bug, but urban AI is at work - it at some point reconsiders population growth over production.

The next drawing label appears below the center of the tile. I just put it there because of free unused space, so the label position may change.

The resource icon overlaps the next drawing label, sometimes impeding the visibility of the marker. The resource icon layer has a higher "z-index" and I can't change it now.

IV. do it

Spoilers:

When a city is selected, show the next drawing marker on all cities screens. (Added since 2016-11-08)

Updated next city plot text and tooltip when manually redistributing citizens within a city. (Added since 2016-11-08)

Add border outline to next city plot in Civ5. (Added since 2016-11-08)

Find a better location for the next plot label.

Added map option to show/hide next plot marker.

Convert the background of the next city plot button to a progress bar.

Shows the cultural cost of the next city tile in the tooltip.

V. Kudos

Spoilers:

Holy Yuri - Custom city panels for his great Holy Yuri inspired me to start this work.

Kelebek - His post hints at which variables I want to investigate.

Olleus - Suggested changes to city culture output should be immediately reflected on the next city tile label.

Druid911 - For reporting a bug that caused the game to crash after viewing only city tiles on a non-packed map on the first turn.

Extract the contents into the Civ6 Mods or DLC folder.

"Steam\SteamApps\common\Sid Meier's Civilization VI\DLC" or

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
