Golden Ages Golden Ages

  • Overview

Introducing the Golden Age to gaming. Your Great Artist, Musician, Prophet, and Writer points are added together each turn, and then a percentage (default 30%) is added to your next Golden Age advancement. When you reach the next Golden Age goal, your progress is reset and your civilization enters a period that increases culture, production, and science (default 25%) for 10 turns.

Through a series of policies, you can change the length of your Golden Age, the percentage of Great People points converted each turn, and the types of Great People that can contribute to your Golden Age progress.

  • User interface

World Tracker Panel World Tracker

A new panel has been added that shows progression to the next Golden Age, bonuses being applied and turns remaining once the Golden Age has been triggered. Hovering over the progress bar displays the current points per turn until the next Golden Age, as well as the estimated number of turns until the next Golden Age is triggered.

Progress points in the Golden Age come from Great People Points. By default, you get 30% Great Prophet, Artist, Musician, and Writer points. You can also earn 0.5 points towards Golden Ages at any time. The policies listed above allow you to earn points from different Great People, or at a higher price. Individual leaders and civilizations can also have traits that allow them to earn points from different greats at a higher rate.

An example of this can be seen in the modified English Civilization, where Victoria's leadership ability allows her to earn 100% of her Admiralty points towards the Golden Age each turn.

The new Golden Age panel also includes a button in the upper right corner that lets you view the citizens and technicians that provide bonuses to your first civilization for completing them.

You can also see the impact of each bonus on individual cities in the yield tooltip on the city panel. It will be listed as % of the modifier and have the exact value for that city. In the case of the "Wonderful Architecture" policy, when the tourism overlap is active, a bonus can be seen in the tourist value of the spectacle.

The Ascension Screen can be accessed via the button on the Golden Age panel in World Tracker. This screen shows six randomly selected citizens\technologies, providing bonuses to the first civilization to complete them.

All items have bonuses that provide 15% advancement towards your next Golden Age. One of the items is randomly selected for an additional bonus of increasing the duration of the Golden Age by 30%.

Once a civilization triggers a boost, the leader's portrait will appear on the right side of the panel, indicating that it can no longer receive boosts.

If you are the first civilization to complete an item, a Boost screen will appear informing you of your bonus. The same screen is also displayed when you complete a wonder and you enable the "Brilliant Architecture" strategy.

The new golden age Popup

When you enter a new Golden Age, a pop-up window will appear (varies based on the era) informing you that the Golden Age has arrived. At this time, you will not receive notifications when the AI enters its golden age, but this may be added in a future release.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
