Do you find that you don't feel right about the rhythm of the game? Times rush by at the speed of your neck? Don't have time to build wonders, improvements, or areas until they're no longer needed? Units moved so slowly on roads until the end of the war? Even in modern times (from 1500 onwards) borders are porous?

Then 8-year-old Pace is your mold! This mode fixes many of the imbalances in the game's pacing, making it feel complete from ancient times to the information age. Changes include more significant path upgrades through eras, borders growing slightly faster, and technology/citizenship becoming more expensive in later eras. All side effects of these changes (such as GP costs and the scientific boost they provide) have been duly considered.

First released in October 2016, this mod has been balanced and thoroughly tested! Compatible with all other tested mods. I'm happy with the current state of the mod. There are currently no plans for future versions, but I'm always looking for feedback/bug reports/suggestions. Happy wishes!

Industrial: +120%

Modern: +160%

The cost also increased by 0.4 times. The talented people who provide one-off scientific and cultural boosts are promoted accordingly. the way

The campaign rewards have been completely reset. different paths now

ancient: immutable

Classical: Bridge River, all tiles cost 0.625 to move

Renaissance (once industrial): All tiles cost 0.375

Modern: Tiles cost 0.25 required to move added borders

The culture has been reduced and the pop-up speed of the second ring has been increased by about 50%. Specifically, CULTURE_COST_LATER_PLOT_MULTIPLIER has been halved and CULTURE_COST_LATER_PLOT_EXPONENT has been increased to 1.4. Add pop music required

The amount of food has been increased for larger cities (negligible effect on cities smaller than 6) to compensate for longer games. Specifically, CITY_GROWTH_EXPONENT was changed from 1.5 to 2.1.

The game calendar has been changed to more closely match the date shown by the turn counter to the historical progression level reached at that point. Combined with changes in technology/urban costs, reaching the medieval era of 1000 BC is now nearly impossible, and staying abreast of historical advancements in the modern era and beyond requires a massive economic power base.

compatibility

This mod is written in a way to be as compatible as possible. This means it should use mods that modify the tech tree mods, add maps/greats/civilizations/leaders, modify the interface, etc. However, it is likely to conflict with mods that affect growing boundaries, road speeds, and how much food is needed to grow the culture required for pop. Surprisingly, the mode doesn't block achievements; I suspect this is Firaxis/Steam oversight. Designed with 8 war eras in mind, so compatibility is 100% guaranteed.

Known issues

Interface issue where the distance a unit could move in a turn was sometimes not displayed correctly when traveling on roads. This happens when different paths are from different eras and are bugs in the unmodified game.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
