Item Debug

Big Walk never hands you a backpack on your own, so anything that has to be worn is impossible to test solo. This puts any prop in the world onto your character, and recolours you while it is at it. A tool for modders rather than something to play with.

Features

  • Wear anything — Every prop in the loaded world in one list, nearest first. Pick one, then fill your backpack, belt or blindfold slot with it.
  • Backpack contents — A worn pack brings its own slots along, so you can fill those too and get a fully loaded character.
  • Hold anything — Put a prop straight into your hands instead.
  • Recolour yourself — Head, torso and legs, or the whole body at once, from the game's own 24-colour palette. Reward-only colours included.
  • Any colour at all — Or mix your own with RGB sliders. That one is local to you and is not saved.
  • Log a report — Writes every slot, what is in it, and your three colours to the BepInEx log, ready to paste into a bug report.

Installation

With a mod manager (Gale, r2modman), install this and let it pull BepInEx in. Manually: install BepInEx 6 IL2CPP (win-x64), run the game once so it unpacks, then extract this archive into the Big Walk folder — the one with Big Walk.exe in it — so that GearDebug.dll lands in BepInEx/plugins.

Big Walk is an IL2CPP game, so BepInEx 5 will not work.

On Steam Deck, SteamOS and Linux, BepInEx needs a DLL override to load under Proton. Put this in the game's Launch Options: WINEDLLOVERRIDES="winhttp=n,b" %command%

Controls

  • ' — Open and close the panel. F9 also works where Steam does not swallow it.

Using it

  • Load into a game first. The panel looks for a player who owns a camera, so it finds nothing at the menu.
  • Gear tab: pick a prop from the lower list, then Fill the slot you want it in. To load up a backpack, fill BACKPACK, press Refresh so the pack's own slots appear, then fill those.
  • Colour tab: pick a part along the top, or Whole body, then pick a swatch. Put them back returns the colours you started with.

Configuration

Edit BepInEx/config/deck.bigwalk.geardebug.cfg.

  • ToggleKeys — Keys that open the panel, comma separated. Default: Quote,F9.
  • Scale — How much to magnify the panel, for handheld screens. Default: 1.6.
  • ListLimit — How many props to show at once. The world holds thousands, so filter rather than raising this. Default: 60.
  • FreeCursor — Release the mouse while the panel is open so the buttons can be clicked. Default: true.
  • RepaintInterval — Seconds between re-applying a kept free colour. Default: 0.25.
  • LogKeys — Log every key press, to find one your machine actually delivers. Default: false.

Notes

  • Palette colours are the game's own and go through its own save, so they persist and other players see them. The RGB sliders do not.
  • The cursor is freed so you can click, but the game still reads the mouse for looking around, so the camera turns as you aim. Typing in the filter box also still drives the game. Both are tolerable for a debug tool and neither is worth patching the game's input to fix.
  • Nothing is spawned. Every prop already exists in the loaded world; this pins one onto you.
  • Multiplayer is untested. You are moving objects other people can see, so do not spring it on a session that is not expecting it.

Built with BepInEx and HarmonyX. Do what you like with it — fork it, reuse the code, roll it into a pack. Credit appreciated, not required.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. Most mods rely on the game's mod loader — the usual route is a community mod manager (such as r2modman): pick this game, install, and it handles the loader and dependencies.
  3. For a manual install, put the mod files into the matching Mod / plugins folder inside the game directory.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; mods with listed dependencies need those installed as well.

Install locations vary a lot between mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
