🛠️ Fixed issues

This module mainly solves two core problems in the game's HDR mode:

  • **HDR picture whitening/fading problem**:
  • **Cause**: The game may be using higher pre-color grading exposure values and not properly converting the sRGB 2.2 gamma mismatch into HDR (learn more about gamma mismatch).
  • **Solution**: Replaced with RenoDX's own implementation of the ACES tone mapper and adjusted the exposure level.
  • **UI interface is too bright/white problem**:
  • **Reason**: The developer used the sRGB gamma formula (instead of the 2.2 gamma formula) to linearize UI elements, and set the UI's paper white (Paper White) to be much brighter than the game screen's paper white.
  • **Solution**: Now use 2.2 gamma uniformly, and adjust the paper white brightness of the UI to be consistent with the game screen.

🎨 Final effect

After repair, you will get a game screen with higher contrast and stronger color volume. I deliberately set the exposure level to be closer to the look and feel of SDR mode. This also means that the default screen after using this mod will be **darker** compared to the original game, so you may need to increase the "paper white" setting in the game appropriately.

⚙️ Adjustable slider

The module provides a wealth of picture fine-tuning options, allowing you to fully control the HDR effect:

  • **Tone Mapping Type** - Choose the tone mapper to use: Original (ACES in question), Custom ACES, Standard ACES.
  • **Peak Brightness**
  • **Game Brightness**
  • **Color Filter Strength** - Adjust the intensity of the color filter.
  • **Exposure**
  • **Highlights**
  • **Shadow**
  • **Contrast**
  • **Saturation**
  • **Highlight Saturation**
  • **Overexposed**
  • **Halo**
  • **HDR Exposure Compensation** - In HDR mode, the game's Paper White slider increases exposure before color grading, instead of increasing brightness after tone mapping. This will destroy the original color grading effect. This setting is mainly used to offset that increased exposure so that color grading can work properly in HDR.
  • **HDR Contrast Compensation** - In HDR mode, the game will increase the value of the contrast slider based on how much the user turns up the "Paper White" setting, presumably to simulate the look and feel of 2.2 EOTF under SDR.

💡 **Tip**: Now, the in-game "Paper White" setting will be **specifically used to control the brightness** of the UI interface.

📥 Installation Guide

  • **Install ReShade**: Download and install ReShade 6.6.2 or higher that supports plug-ins. ⚠️ **No need to install any ReShade effects files. **
  • **Place the add-on file**: Copy the `renodx-asscreedorigins-odyssey.addon64` file to the installation directory of "Assassin's Creed: Odyssey" (that is, the folder where `ACOdyssey.exe` or `ACOdyssey_Plus.exe` is located, which is also the folder where you place ReShade's `dxgi.dll` file).
  • **Run Game**: Start the game.
  • **Check plug-in**: Press the `` key in the game to call out the ReShade interface and check whether the plug-in has been loaded successfully.

ℹ️ About RenoDX

**RenoDX** (full name "DirectX Game Renovation Engine") is a toolset for modifying games. Currently, it can replace shaders, inject buffers, add overlays, and write user settings to disk. Since RenoDX uses ReShade's plug-in system, compatibility is expected to be very broad. Utilizing ReShade simplifies all necessary DirectX hooks, no need to worry about patching specific versions of executables. The source code can be viewed on GitHub.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
