About this mod Author’s original text

3D Grottos

A Majora's Mask: Recompiled mod that replaces the flat grotto sprite with an actual 3d model!

Requires Zelda 64: Recompiled 1.2.2 or newer.

Configuration Options

  • 3D Grotto Holes (on): turn the mod off without uninstalling it
  • Pit Depth (60): 20 to 150 world units
  • Pit Width (100%): 80% to 120% of the vanilla hole
  • Pit Style (Earthen): Earthen is dirt fading to black, Shadowed is darker, Void is plain black like vanilla
  • Soil Rim (on): a soft ring of dirt that blends the edge into the ground

Building

Needs clang with MIPS support, lld, make, zip, and RecompModTool in the repo root.

git clone --recurse-submodules

cd mm-3d-grottos./package.sh

The mod ends up in build/ and the zip in dist. The versions in mod.toml and manifest.json have to match or package.sh stops.

Built from the MMRecompModTemplate using the Majora's Mask decompilation.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. Most mods rely on the game's mod loader — the usual route is a community mod manager (such as r2modman): pick this game, install, and it handles the loader and dependencies.
  3. For a manual install, put the mod files into the matching Mod / plugins folder inside the game directory.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; mods with listed dependencies need those installed as well.

Install locations vary a lot between mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
