XCOM 2 Compilation Guide, Configuration/Editing and Resources

“Sometimes the simplest adjustments have the biggest impact.”

[Final Revision Added/Updated/Tested/Revised/Comments: 9-30-17]

Define your own difficulty by using all/some/none reconfigs/mods. I've gathered all the relevant resources here so you can get in on the game instead of trying to find various solutions to fix/research various problems and workarounds. I think this compilation is about to go into final revision since what I'm trying to accomplish is already done. Weapon behavior feels unique and the game is no longer static. I replaced all my personal weapons with the CV weapon pack, which has almost all the weapons I edited with both mods. The edited configuration is under File.

Here's how to force XCOM2 to refresh all code in the ini file to keep it up to date

Steps: Step 1: Open the folder... Documents\My Games\XCOM2\XComGame\Config

Step 2: Delete everything in it.

Step 3: Start XCOM2. You need to double check all mods in the launcher.

On startup, XCOM2 will rebuild the ini file you just deleted, and while doing so it will refresh everything to use the latest code.

You should do this every time you change your modlist, it should be considered mandatory, it fixes about 80% of all issues related to mods.

After letting the game rebuild the .inis, exit and replace the new xcomengine.ini with the performance configuration version (if you are using it).

The same applies to any other reconfigurations you may be using.

You'll need all 3 DLCs for most compilations, so keep that in mind. (Uploaded all 4 performance configurations under one file. It also removed the modclassoverrides of Stop Wasting My Time, which would cause the ui mods to malfunction or not work at all. I didn't really think about it because I don't use that many ui mods and didn't have issues until I tested. The extra icons and free camera rotation were affected by the Stop Wasting My Time overrides.) The mods I'm using enhance the vanilla experience and also, as a side effect, enhance/extend the activity.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
