Set save location to the directory where XEW/XEU/XCOM2/WotC Ironman saves are stored
Set the backup location to a directory of your choice
Set the backup to maintain appropriate values. A value of 0 will retain all backups. If the limit is reached, the oldest backups are deleted first. This limits the backups retained per campaign, rather than all backups combined.
Choose one of the following methods:
Event-driven saving (recommended version)
Click the "Enable event-driven saving" checkbox
Click to start backup
Play games!
NOTE: A backup is automatically created every time the game is updated and saved.

Click on Force Backup
Play games!
Save interval
Set interval
Click to start backup

Note: Backups will be created at every interval, so if the interval is shorter, there may be duplicates

This will work with XEU, XEW, WOTC and vanilla XCOM2. It should work with any and all mods. This tool can be extended to any game with Ironman functionality, but that's a future project.
Currently, this is Windows only, supporting everything from Windows 7SP1 onwards. OSX Sierra and Linux support is highly anticipated, but there is no firm date yet.
XEW/XEU/Vanilla XCOM2 NOTE
With these 3 versions, you may have some backup for your non-Ironman workouts.
This is because WotC is the only version that can easily identify Ironman from non-Ironman saves. So running this tool next to XEU/XEW/X2 Vanilla will not be able to distinguish which store is Ironman or not and will continue to make backups for your currently playing campaign.
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
