Help you find those pesky signal leaks by using mission waypoints and provide players with information on how many leaks a site has

Major version:

When you activate scan mode within 8km of a station or you have a station within the target area (regardless of range) it will show you the locations of all leaks using mission waypoints. The mission information window at the bottom left of the screen shows the player how many signals are on the station and of what type (communication or data). There are three modes to choose from, one is player and Comm signal, the other is data signal, and the third is Comm signal. Switch between the three modes by exiting and reactivating scan mode without having to switch targets or travel more than 2km.

Cheating-reduced version:

Activating scan mode near a workstation displays information on the amount of leakage remaining on the workstation. The leak will not be designated until the player is within 250 meters of it. The reason the leaked audio starts at 200 meters and the waypoint starts at 200 meters is because the script has a little delay between distance checks, so as the player moves, the effective detection radius decreases; when traveling at speeds less than 100 meters/second, the 250 meter radius gives a pretty good 200 meter effective radius. As in the main version, the player can switch between signal detection modes by reactivating scan mode within the station's detection radius. If you wish to make things easier/harder, you can easily edit the mod to change the detection distance or disable the leak count. You can also disable waypoints and keep the leak count by setting the detection distance to "-1". First, open '\extensions\Signal_Leak_Hunter\md\Signal_Leak_Hunter_MD.xml', further instructions are at the top of the file.

Notice:

  • This mod uses mission waypoints, so when you enter scan mode or an actively positioned intra-sector station within 8km of a station, it will invalidate the current mission.
  • There is a vanilla bug in the game that can cause inaccessible leaks and multiple leaks in one place. This mod does not affect leak generation in any way.
  • Sometimes when you decrypt a leak, you won't get rewards. This is because the game doesn't filter out all previous rewards from the reward results, so you can effectively claim any reward. This is also vanilla behavior, the mod does not change leak rewards in any way.

renew:

v3.0: Changed waypoint to point immediately to leaks. Multiple scan modes have been added so that people can filter out their results without having to edit the mod file. Keeps the old automatic scan of nearby sites, but adds the option of manually targeting sites to get leaked data on remote sites.

v2.1: Added some additional, possibly redundant catches to help prevent bugs.

v2.0: Big update, split the mod into two versions for those who want the mod to be less annoying. Added the ability to view the number and types of leaks available. Added multiple waypoint support. Removed bug causing waypoints to get stuck on voice leaks after being scanned. The Cheat Less version still has a waypoint with a detection radius of 250m that displays available leak data.

Browse your x4 file

folder - create a new folder called 'extensions' if you don't have one already

-unzip files into 'Extension'

The path should be: ...\X4 Foundations\extensions\Signal_Leak_Hunter\content.xml...\X4 Foundations\extensions\Signal_Leak_Hunter\md\Signal_Leak_Hunter_MD.xml - some

People have problems installing mods directly into their X4 installation directory, in this case installing to "...\Documents\Egosoft\X4\####\extensions\", #### will be some random number, you will have to create the extensions folder manually if it hasn't been done yet.

  • If you try to switch between the 'Cheat Less' and 'Main' versions of the mod, you may experience some incorrect behavior. If you do this and the mod doesn't

- Remove the mod from the extensions folder

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
