Resolved a number of issues that prevented the Auto Traveler from performing as well as one would hope.
This mod is not a major overhaul of the vanilla script by any means. In general, I try to minimize changes as much as possible. It is intended to be a temporary solution to current autotrader logic issues until Ego starts looking into them in detail, rather than any permanent "upgrade" to vanilla traders. I did have to do some creativity and make some subjective judgments to make certain aspects of things work, so I consider it more of a mod than a pure "fix"
Specifically: it replaces the final stage of the evaluation process for giving the "Autotrade" command when a trader selects a trade, and makes adjustments to other parts of the search and decision logic scripts that were causing trouble for vanilla traders. It does not affect Radio Trader, nor does it add any new commands or gameplay features.
It does affect trade ships owned by players and NPC factions, although they give slightly different criteria for what they consider "good trade":
Player-owned auto-trading ships will evaluate trade deals based on their potential profit margins.
If a player does not have enough money to purchase all the items in a particular trade, only the amount of items they can afford will be considered in the trader's evaluation.
NPC factions won't use money to buy their ships or stations, so their traders will make decisions based on moving as much quantity as they can for the highest price differential they can find.
Other notes:
Player-owned automated trading ships will search each industry for the trades they are ordered to search by the player.
An L-class or XL-class autopilot that does not have any cargo drones on board will not attempt to trade with any station that does not have a cargo drone of its own.
NPC-owned free traders won't search multiple industries like player-owned ships, but they will search more industries than before. (They're hoping to find trade offers in three sectors, not just one.)
Currently, faction-specific discounts are not included in trade evaluations until I have a better understanding of exactly how the mechanic works.
Installation: The .zip file needs to be extracted into the extensions folder of the game directory: "..\X4 Foundations\extensions". If "extended"
The folder does not exist, then you need to create it.
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
