Use a custom Live2D model

Starting from v2.1.0, models can be imported through folders. At this time, the name of model.json no longer needs to be consistent with the folder name, and this file does not even need to exist. However, please note that importing a model without model.json will only support some basic functions.

There are two ways to import models, file import and folder import. Models containing model.json files can be imported through files, and any supported models can be imported through folders.

The only downside to folder import is that the folder picker doesn't remember the last location selected, meaning you have to manually navigate to the project directory each time you select it. This problem is caused by CEF (the internal browser) and cannot be fixed unless Wallpaper Engine upgrades CEF to a new version one day.

Now supports importing any Live2D 2.1 standard model via folder. If you feel that the position of the model in the border (which will be displayed when dragging) is not correct, you can adjust the values of the layout parameters in the model configuration file, or delete these parameters directly to use the default values.

Live2D resources

There are some new versions of the Neptune series models. Different from the built-in old version of the model, the new version does not have a hit zone on the body, so clicking on the head will trigger actions, and clicking on the mouth will switch expressions

Here are some models that have been adapted for this wallpaper: Nepgear by CelloD, Norie by Beat Hazardous T.L. and Blanc by Adamu-kun, thanks for their work!

Here are the Chinese versions of Norie and Blanc, as well as the models of Histoire and Uni shared by kagami

If you want to adapt the model yourself, check out this guide

Problem solving

When you encounter any unexpected behavior in the wallpaper, you can try reloading the wallpaper - by clicking the refresh button (top right corner of the settings panel) or reselecting the wallpaper in the Wallpaper Engine browser

If the problem persists, try clicking the reset button in the console of the settings panel, which can solve most problems. There is an additional step to reset the properties of the wallpaper in the Wallpaper Engine browser, which is usually not required

You can also post a problem report if you like, we would appreciate it. But it would be best to provide more detailed information. Here is a template:

The problem that arises and how you get it

Error message, if any (check the log in the console of the settings panel to see if there is red text)

Hardware and software environment, such as monitors (resolution? refresh rate? multiple monitors?)

Latest update v2.1.1

Added option to disable greetings

Fixed an issue where certain Live2D models would cause errors to be reported

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
