PinyinSearch

Enter pinyin or initials in the search box of "Voices of the Void" to search for Chinese item names without the need for a Chinese input method.

Chinese patches (such as Votv-PatchChinese) will display item names as Chinese, and the game's native search can only match text fragments. PinyinSearch adds pinyin search support without changing the native search results, and ordinary English keyboards can also be used.

Function introduction

  • Support notebook store search.
  • Supports recipe search in player inventories and containers.
  • Supports input of Quanpin, initials, and mixed input of Quanpin and initials.
  • Polyphonetic characters are supported; tones will be ignored and ü will be treated as v.
  • No additional configuration files are required, no internet connection is required, and no data is downloaded.

Where it works

Any search box that goes through the game's shared filterWidget filter:

  • Laptop store search box (the shop)
  • Player inventory / container search box (recipe search)

Matching is a strict superset of vanilla: everything that worked before still works.

What you can type

For an item named watch (shǒu biǎo):

| You type | Result | Why |

|---|---|---|

| shoubiao | ✅ | full Pinyin |

| sb | ✅ | initials |

| shoub | ✅ | partial syllables |

| biao | ✅ | starting from the second syllable |

| shb | ✅ | mixed full + initial |

| shǒu | ✅ | tones are ignored |

| watches | ✅ | literal Chinese, unchanged |

| hou | ❌ | matching starts at syllable boundaries |

Multi-reading characters are supported: bank matches both yinhang and yinxing.

Multiple words work like vanilla — they are ANDed: metal scrap finds Metal Scrap, and each word is matched independently.

Matching rules

  • The search text is split on whitespace; every part must match (same as vanilla).
  • A part matches if it is a substring of the item name (case-insensitive, vanilla behaviour), or
  • it matches the item's Pinyin syllables, where each syllable may contribute its full reading or just its first letter.

ü is folded to v, tones are ignored, so nv finds 女.

Data & credits

  • Pinyin table generated from mozillazg/pinyin-data v0.15.0 — MIT.
  • Matching approach inspired by JustEnoughCharacters and its PinIn library — both MIT.

The Pinyin table is compiled into main.dll; nothing is downloaded at runtime and no extra files are needed.

Limitations

  • No fuzzy-Pinyin matching yet (e.g. zh/z, ang/an are treated as distinct). Planned for a later version.
  • Matching starts at syllable boundaries, so a mid-syllable fragment like hou will not match shou.
  • Items whose names are still English keep working exactly as before.

Requirements

  • Voices of the Void (a09n or later)
  • Unreal Shimloader (installed automatically by mod managers)

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. Most mods rely on the game's mod loader — the usual route is a community mod manager (such as r2modman): pick this game, install, and it handles the loader and dependencies.
  3. For a manual install, put the mod files into the matching Mod / plugins folder inside the game directory.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; mods with listed dependencies need those installed as well.

Install locations vary a lot between mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.

Dependencies

Install these first, or the mod will not work:
