About this mod Author’s original text
WolfStars
Makes high-star creatures look the part and keeps their drops sane. Built for servers that breed tames past the vanilla 2-star limit (for example with BreedingTweaks).
What it does
Looks. Vanilla Valheim only has a look for 1-star and 2-star creatures; anything higher looks like a plain 0-star animal. WolfStars gives every star above 2:
- a little more size (+5% per star, up to 1.5x), and
- a colour band: 3 blue, 5 teal, 7 green, 9 yellow, 11 red, 13 magenta, 15 purple, 17 silver, and orange at 19 stars (level 20).
Drops. Vanilla doubles a creature's drops with every star, so a 19-star wolf would drop the 100-per-stack maximum of everything. WolfStars makes anything above 3 stars drop like a 3-star creature.
By default it applies to Wolf and Boar; the list is configurable.
Install
Install on the server and every client (drops are rolled by the player's game that owns the creature, and the looks are drawn by each player's game). Requires BepInExPack Valheim.
Configuration
BepInEx/config/wick.wolfstars.cfg:
| Setting | Default | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Creatures | Wolf,Boar | Prefab names it applies to |
| MaxDropStars | 3 | Above this many stars, drops stay at this level |
| ScalePerStar | 0.05 | Extra size per star above 2 |
| MaxScale | 1.5 | Largest size |
| Tints | (9 bands) | fromStars:R,G,B bands separated by; |
| GlowStrength | 1 | Multiplies every tint |
| NaturalFurUnderTints | true | Plain fur under the tint so the colour reads cleanly |
Use the same config on the server and every client so everyone sees the same colours.
Testing
wolfstars_level (a cheat command - single-player or self-hosted only) sets the level of the nearest Wolf/Boar, because the vanilla spawn command caps creatures at level 9.
Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin
- The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
- Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
- Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
- Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.
Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file. In multiplayer, the host and every client need the same mods installed.
Install these first, or the mod will not work:
