About this mod Author’s original text
Valheim WebMap
A server-side mod that publishes a live web map of your world. Share
and anyone can watch — clients need no mods. Dedicated
server only.
A fork of [h0tw1r3/valheim-webmap] rebuilt for Valheim 1.0 (Deep North).
Features
- Explorable map in the browser — wheel zoom, pinch on mobile.
- Shared fog of war: only what players have actually explored.
- Live player positions, and who is online.
- Structures — placed pieces drawn in the colour of their material, so bases read as
bases. Keyed off the piece's creator, so terrain and world-generated ruins never appear.
The sweep behind it runs only while someone is looking at the map.
- Forest and logging — standing trees shade the terrain and felled ground stops being
shaded, so clearings show through. Stumps are counted as the record of felling.
- Boats and carts, in explored territory only.
- Portals, graves and traders, linked portals joined by a line; up close, builds turn
into a floor plan of every placed piece.
- The land named -- landmasses, ranges and peaks, lakes, bays, rivers -- and trails
where people walk, and where they died.
- World render at the resolution you choose — render_size 4096 halves the metres
per pixel, and rendering no longer stalls the server.
- The world in 3D. Drop the little figure on any walked spot, as in Street View, and
you stand there at eye height: the ground as the game shapes it, terraforming included,
water, and every building, tree and rock drawn with the game's own model, under a sky
lit by the server's clock, and the players online standing there as themselves, in what
they wear. Look around, walk, or switch to an overview.
- A cinematic tour of the world's places, on the map and in 3D, for a screen left open.
- Pages of their own for the world's records and bosses, a portal atlas, a planning
board, and each player's tallies and class.
- Server announcements on every player's screen, for restart warnings and the like.
- Chat, deaths and joins in the message log; the server going up and down, joins and
leaves to a Discord webhook; with a bot of your own, an audit log and chat relayed both
ways (Discord).
- Sign in with Discord: members of your Discord server name places and pin the map
from the browser, and its admins change the settings there. No bot or Discord app needed.
Install
- With [BepInEx] working, put the WebMap directory in
Valheim dedicated server/BepInEx/plugins/WebMap.
- Start the server once to write a default config.
- Stop the server before editing that config — BepInEx rewrites it on shutdown, so
edits made while it runs are discarded.
- Open the configured port (default 3000) and visit
After updating, hard-reload the page (shift+reload) to clear cached layers.
Using the map
The viewer at is five pages — the live map (with the world in 3D
as a mode of it, and a cinematic tour through both), the world's own page (its records, its lands, its bosses), a portal atlas drawn on a biome chart (a hub opens close up: the base's
floor plan with each gate where it stands, and going through a gate lands you at its far
side with the gate you arrive at lit), a planning board for drawing and sharing routes,
and per-player tallies, from deaths and deeds to what each has cooked, brewed and smelted,
with a class read from their gear, their food and their deeds
(a player's own page draws them as the 3D view does, turning slowly:
live while they are online, as last seen once they have gone) —
with a legend that switches each layer and a Layers card, as on Google Maps, holding
presets of the legend and the choice of ground: the render, or the flat biome atlas.
The sidebar folds away with the ☰ in the bar, on phones it is a drawer, and the choice
holds across pages. Its source is WebMap/web: site.css is the style system every
page draws from, map-core.js the rendering core, js/card.js a player as the roster
reads them (for the players page and the tou
Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin
- The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
- Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
- Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
- Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.
Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file. In multiplayer, the host and every client need the same mods installed.
Install these first, or the mod will not work:
