Vines and Wine
Find wild vines, grow your own vineyard, stomp the harvest barefoot — and pour a wine worth a saga.
Vines and Wine adds a whole winemaking craft to Valheim: three grape varieties hidden around the world, vineyards on
trellises, a wine press you stomp in with your friends, fermentation, aging — and 24 wines to discover, from a
simple Meadow wine to Freyja's Tears, which can cheat death once. No recipe is handed to you: taste, experiment, and
hunt for the notes old winemakers left in chests across the tenth world.
The vines
| Grape | Where it grows wild |
| --- | --- |
| Pale grapes | By abandoned farms, villages and lonely houses in the Meadows |
| Dark grapes | On the stone walls of ruined towers in the Black Forest |
| Sun grapes | At Fuling camps in the Plains |
| Vineberry Cluster | The vanilla Ashlands berry — it goes into the press too; its own growing is unchanged |
Pick a bunch to eat on the road, or bring cuttings home — they fall from wild vines, and Greydwarf shamans sometimes
carry a dark one grown into them. Plant a cutting by a trellis: the vine grows with the days of the world, even while
you are away, and gives an extra bunch in its native lands.
From grape to goblet
- Press. Load 12, 24 or 36 fruits into the big wooden vat, take off your boots and stomp — run, jump, or bring
friends to finish the batch faster.
- Ferment. Two in-game days in a fermentation barrel turn the must into an unknown wine. You see what it was
made of, its colour and a few aroma notes — but not what it is.
- Taste. The first sip reveals the wine's name and effect — for you alone.
- Age. Rest a vessel in an aging barrel to earn ★, ★★ and ★★★: every effect lasts longer and hits harder — the
useful, the playful and the harmful alike.
24 wines — and a few ways to fail
- 10 wines that speed up stamina, health or eitr regeneration.
- 11 special wines. The right additives in the press give each one a trait no mead has: staying dry in the rain, a
wider view of the map, a farmer's luck, a second chance from Freyja… The wrong additive spoils the batch.
- 3 playful wines for good company.
- 8 kinds of spoiled wine, from nausea to darkened eyes — you only find out which by tasting. Stars mean aging, not
safety.
Ingredients and ratios are deliberately left out of this page.
The Winemaker's Table
- A shared recipe book. Build a winemaker's table and, like at a cartography table, write down the wines you know
and read what others have discovered. Each table keeps its own book; while the book has records, the hammer can't
dismantle the table.
- Leaf through it with your movement keys (A/D by default), the arrow keys or the mouse wheel — LB/RB on a gamepad.
Each of the 24 wines has a page. A wine that is neither in the book nor in your journal stays grey: it shows only
which lands it belongs to and the notes bound to it.
- Recipes in chests. Recipe books and winemaker's notes turn up in the chests of dungeons, ruins, camps and
shipwrecks — in the lands where you can already gather everything for that wine; sometimes from the lands before,
rarely from the next. The notes are riddles and fragments left by three voices: Thorolf the vintner, Aud the seeress
and Bjarni the skald. Put the pieces together, and finish by experiment whatever they don't tell you yet.
- The craft, page by page. Notes about the vines and the craft turn into the book's first chapter — a guide from a
wild vine to an aged wine, found one by one as you explore.
Installation & multiplayer
- Install with r2modman, Mod Manager or Gale: BepInExPack Valheim and Jötunn are installed automatically.
Manual install: put Winemaking.dll into BepInEx/plugins.
- Required on the server and on every client, with the same version — otherwise Jötunn does not let the client
join. Server settings are synced to all players.
- Existing worlds work: wild vines appear in areas you have not explored yet, and every location chest rolls for
records onc
Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin
- The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
- Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
- Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
- Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.
Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file. In multiplayer, the host and every client need the same mods installed.
Install these first, or the mod will not work:
