About this mod Author’s original text

Viking Mushrooms

Viking Mushrooms adds mushroom-induced trance states to Valheim, combining unique gameplay mechanics with hallucinations, audio, camera effects and HUD elements designed to fit naturally into the game.

Created by TheLionCid.

Version: 0.5.3

Valheim: 1.0.16

Framework: BepInEx 5

Available Trances

The current public release includes two mushroom trances:

| Mushroom | Trance | Main identity |

| --- | --- | --- |

| Red Mushroom (Mushroom) | Berserksgangr | Blood Debt, aggressive combat bonuses and crimson hallucinations. |

| Yellow Mushroom (MushroomYellow) | Vision of Hel | Enemy revelation, spectral hallucinations and temporary Spirit damage. |

The remaining planned mushroom trances are not enabled in the current public release. Their foods keep their normal Valheim behaviour.

Only one trance can be active at a time. By default, consuming another supported mushroom replaces the current trance.

Trance duration follows the remaining food duration of the mushroom that triggered it.

Berserksgangr

Berserksgangr is an aggressive trance built around Blood Debt.

Instead of immediately dying when damage pushes the player beyond the configured health floor, part of that damage can become Blood Debt.

Blood Debt

Blood Debt is displayed near the health bar and can be repaid through healing.

As Blood Debt rises, Berserksgangr can increase:

  • melee damage;
  • attack speed;
  • movement speed;
  • stagger resistance.

The maximum bonuses and debt behaviour can be adjusted in the configuration.

Last Breath

If Berserksgangr ends while Blood Debt remains, Last Breath begins.

The player has a short period to repay the remaining debt. If it is not cleared before the countdown ends, the unpaid debt can kill the player.

Armour restriction

By default, Berserksgangr can restrict configured metal chest armour.

The restriction and blocked chest-prefab list are configurable.

Visual identity

Berserksgangr includes effects such as:

  • crimson world colouring;
  • Blood Debt pressure effects;
  • red auras and glowing eyes;
  • floating runes;
  • spectral hallucinations;
  • camera and post-processing effects;
  • heartbeat and trance audio.

Vision of Hel

Vision of Hel is a perception-focused trance where the world of the dead appears to overlap normal Valheim.

Enemy revelation

Nearby enemies can be revealed by periodic perception pulses.

Revealed enemies receive a golden spectral presentation and an eye marker, helping the player track them even through normal scene obstruction where the reveal effect applies.

Hallucinations

Vision of Hel can include:

  • crypt-like fog;
  • distant specters;
  • spectral birds;
  • runic inscriptions;
  • motion afterimages;
  • screen distortion;
  • distant chains;
  • green and golden atmospheric effects.

These hallucinations are visual-only and do not have AI, collision, loot, damage or persistent world state.

Spirit damage

While Vision of Hel is active, weapon attacks receive an additional 10% Spirit damage contribution.

Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin

  1. The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
  2. Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
  3. Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
  4. Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.

Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file. In multiplayer, the host and every client need the same mods installed.
