Fork of / for maintenance, as it seems abandoned.
How to install
- Download and install the BepInEx package
- Drag and drop ValheimPlayerModels.dll in the "BepInEx/plugin" folder in your game install folder.
- Launch the game.
- Place all your avatars in the newly created "PlayerModels" folder inside your game install folder
- The mod will load the avatar with the same filename as your character name. (you might want to restart the game)
How to create an avatar
- Install Unity, generally preferring the version with which Valheim itself is built, presently along the lines of Unity 6000.0.61
- Create a new 3D Project.
- Download the SDK
- Import the SDK and all your avatar assets.
- Change your avatar model rig to Humanoid if its not already setup from the import.
- Place your avatar model in the scene.
- Add a "Valheim Avatar Descriptor" component on your avatar.
- Click the "Auto-Setup" Button.
- Move the different equipment previews to fit your hands and the armour previews to fit your character.
- Change your avatar material shaders to "Valheim/Standard" or "Standard". Other shaders may have strange effects in-game.
- Click the "Export" button in the Avatar Descriptor.
- Export in the "PlayerModels" folder in your game install folder.
Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin
- The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
- Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
- Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
- Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.
Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file. In multiplayer, the host and every client need the same mods installed.
