SupplementalFoods

v0.6.6·Updated 2026-03-02

Adds long duration, short duration, and balanced foods to vanilla Valhiem

About this mod Author’s original text

Summary

This mod aims to extend the vanilla Valhiem foods in five ways.

  • Adds long duration foods after Plains level so you can build for hours or explore widely without having to burn an inventory full of food
  • Adds powerful, short duration foods at all tiers for tough battles or corpse retrieval
  • Adds food at all tiers that is more balanced between Hipoints, Stamina and Eitr than Irongate's skewed ones
  • Adds Black Forest and Mountain foods that have Eitr
  • Give the Stone Oven from the Plains more utility than just baking Lox Meat Pies and Stuffed Mushrooms

Manual Installation

Place SupplementalFoods.dll file in to Valheim/BepinEx/plugins/ folder.

Place com.dtnc.supplementalfoods.translations.english.json file in to /BepinEx/config/ folder.

Place com.dtnc.supplementalfoods.conversiondefinitions.json file in to /BepinEx/config/ folder.

Place com.dtnc.supplementalfoods.fooddefinitions.json file in to /BepinEx/config/ folder.

Translations

It is only English. If you want to add translations, make a new file com.dtnc.supplementalfoods.translations..json with your translated text and put it into the Bepinx\config directory. The mod should automatically load the one that matches the current Valheim language.

If you send a translation file to the contact e-mail I might put it into some future release. No promises.

Configuration

A configuration file com.dtnc.supplementalfoods.cfg exists to select and deselect groups of foods. It is automatically generated when the mod is first run and contains description of each setting.

  • You can enable or disable the foods from each Biome.
  • You can enable or disable the baked foods from the Stone Oven.
  • You can enable or disable the long term Ravioli foods.
  • You can enable or disable the high stat Burger foods.

-You can set the power of all foods to match your difficulty. Using 1.0 is the Valheim scale of 60/73/86/100/127/143 combined stats. Higher means better hp, stamina, and eitr.

External food files

The configuration file 'com.dtnc.supplementalfoods.fooddefinitions.json' contains all the individual food values and attributes. You can tweak these as much as you want, or add new foods and recipes if you want. The values of most fields are the Valheim internal strings. If you make a new food, you will want to use a unique FoodInternalID string that you made up. The DefaultFoodItem is the prefab that tells the dll what the dropped item looks like and its default icon.

The FoodCategory values corrspond to the configuration file enable flags. Use 2 if a food is needed by another recipe.

  • 0 = Ashlands
  • 1 = Baked
  • 2 = Base (foods needed by other foods)
  • 3 = BlackForest
  • 4 = Burger (high hp)
  • 5 = LongTerm (long duration)
  • 6 = Mistlands
  • 7 = Mountains
  • 8 = Plains
  • 9 = Swamp

The configuration file 'com.dtnc.supplementalfoods.conversiondefinitions.json' contains the oven, fermenter, and cooking station conversions the mod uses. You can edit these and add more if you want.

Setting ForceSaveRecipeDefaults = true in 'com.dtnc.supplementalfoods.cfg' will overwrite both external config files with the internal defaults. Use it if you mess up and need to recover the files.

FAQ

Q. Why are some recipes on the Workbench?

A. In the Meadows you don't get a Cauldron, and you don't get Flour until you get a Windmill. Putting seed flour grinding and burger assembly on the Workbench solved both of those problems without adding another crafting station.

Q. How do I make a pickle?

A. Shove an Onion into the fermenter.

Q. I dropped some food on the ground/hung it on the cooking station/put it on a peg and it looks like some vanilla Valheim thing. Am I broken?

A. It is expected. For now, the 3D part comes from whatever vanilla prefab I assigned as the Jotunn template.

Q. Why are some of these recipes culturally incorrect?

A. Valhiem lacks some of the key food bases for almost every cuisine, e.g. milk and leafy vegetables. I did not want to add more pickables since there are alre

Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin

  1. The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
  2. Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
  3. Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
  4. Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.

Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file. In multiplayer, the host and every client need the same mods installed.
