SteadyHelm
Ship autopilot for Valheim 1.0: hold right mouse to aim, the helm keeps that course. Click the map to set a heading, plus bow and top-down cameras. A rewrite of the abandoned Ship Navigator.
About this mod Author’s original text
SteadyHelm
Point your ship where you want to go and let go of the keys.
Hold the right mouse button at the helm, look where you want to sail, and release. The ship turns
onto that heading and holds it through wind and waves while you watch the horizon, fight a serpent
or check the map.
- Aim a course. Hold right mouse and look. The helm keeps that heading after you let go.
- Course from the map. Hold Left Ctrl, open the large map and click a spot. The ship points at it.
- Still yours to steer. A and D work as always; when you let go, the ship holds its new heading.
- Two more cameras. Out on the bow, or high overhead for tight harbours.
- Move the ship panel. Put the sail and rudder panel where you like it.
- Works in multiplayer. Dedicated servers and player-hosted games alike, with nothing installed
on the server or on anyone else's game. Other players see your rudder move normally.

Compatibility
Built for the Deep North update. Client-side only, so it does not care what the server runs and it
will not get you kicked by mod checks that compare plugin lists.
Credits
A rewrite of Ship Navigator by DerangedXan ( 885), which stopped working after Valheim
1.0 and has not been updated since 2021. The steering controller and the camera offsets are the
original's; the rest was rebuilt for the current game. Do not run both at once.
Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin
- The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
- Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
- Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
- Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.
Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file. In multiplayer, the host and every client need the same mods installed.
Install these first, or the mod will not work:
