Stay Loaded

By xNeliox | Version 1.0.0 | Client-side Valheim mod

Loaded weapons stay ready when stowed.

Stay Loaded remembers whether each weapon was fully loaded before you switched weapons or put it away. When you equip it again, its loaded state is restored. After firing, normal reloading is required.

Features

  • Remembers the loaded state separately for each weapon.
  • Preserves completed reloads when switching or putting weapons away.
  • Stores the state in the item's saved data, including across saves and restarts.
  • Covers weapons using Valheim's standard reload system, including modded weapons implemented with that system.
  • Adds a loaded status line to the inventory tooltip.
  • Keeps normal ammunition consumption and reload requirements after firing.
  • Interrupted reloads do not count as loaded.

Weapon support

Crossbows and other weapons with the standard reload requirement are detected automatically. A grappling hook is covered if it uses that same reload system; no specific grappling hook has been verified in-game. Bows that only draw a string and weapons using a separate custom reload system are not covered.

Language

The mod reads the language selected in Valheim's settings whenever it displays the loaded tooltip. No separate language setting is needed. English is the default and fallback. The loaded tooltip includes English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Polish, Russian, Chinese, Japanese and Korean translations. Publication documentation is primarily English. Existing game text remains controlled by Valheim.

Installation

Requires BepInEx 5 for Valheim.

Mod manager: Install the package and its BepInExPack dependency, then launch the game through your mod manager.

Manual: Extract the archive into the Valheim game directory. The DLL should end up at BepInEx/plugins/StayLoaded/StayLoaded.dll.

Install on each client that wants this feature. A dedicated server does not require the mod. Players without it keep normal game behavior. Install only one copy of the DLL. Remove any earlier test version before updating.

Configuration

No configuration is required. Reload preservation and automatic language detection are enabled by default.

Uninstall

Remove StayLoaded.dll or disable the package in your mod manager. Normal game loading behavior returns. Stored item metadata is inert while the mod is absent.

Compatibility and validation

Compiled against the locally installed Valheim assemblies and checked against their reload, equip and item-save methods. Confirmed working in singleplayer and multiplayer by the author. Mods that replace the same reload functions may affect compatibility. Do not interpret automatic weapon detection as confirmation that every third-party weapon has been tested.

Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin

  1. The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
  2. Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
  3. Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
  4. Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.

Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file. In multiplayer, the host and every client need the same mods installed.
