Staffs of the Forsaken

Author: YouDied

Version: 1.0.1

Game: Valheim

Requirements: BepInEx 5.4.23+, Jotunn 2.28.0+

Seven boss-themed staves, one for each biome. Each staff channels the power of the boss you conquered to unlock it — crafted with that boss's trophy and biome materials, wielding their signature ability. All abilities are aimed using your camera crosshair. None of them will hurt you or your allies.

Staves

Staff of the Meadows — Eikthyr's Lightning Stomp

Craft: Workbench (level 3) — Wood ×10, Resin ×10, Trophy Eikthyr

Ability: Slams the ground at your aim point, sending an expanding lightning shockwave outward. Deals lightning damage and applies the Shocked status to all enemies caught in the wave.

Cooldown: 20 seconds

Staff of the Forest — The Elder's Vine Volley

Craft: Workbench (level 4) — Core Wood ×10, Troll Hide ×10, Trophy The Elder

Ability: Fires a volley of 25 root projectiles toward your aim point, followed by a direct area-of-effect impact at the target. Deals pierce damage.

Cooldown: 20 seconds

Staff of the Mire — Bonemass's Poison Cloud

Craft: Workbench (level 5) — Ancient Bark ×10, Root ×10, Trophy Bonemass

Ability: Erupts a lingering poison cloud at your aim point. Deals an immediate burst of poison damage, then continues to tick poison damage and apply the Poisoned status to any enemy that enters the area for 10 seconds.

Cooldown: 20 seconds

Staff of the Mountain — Moder's Frost Breath

Craft: Workbench (level 5) — Fine Wood ×10, Obsidian ×10, Trophy Dragon Queen

Ability: Exhales a wide cone of frost breath aimed toward your cursor. Deals frost damage with falloff over distance and applies the Frost status. Effective against anything in front of you.

Cooldown: 20 seconds

Staff of the Plains — Yagluth's Spirit Nova

Craft: Workbench (level 5) — Lox Pelt ×10, Needle ×10, Trophy Goblin King

Ability: Detonates a spirit and fire nova at your aim point. Deals immediate burst damage, then leaves a burning zone that lingers for 10 seconds dealing fire damage to enemies that remain inside.

Cooldown: 20 seconds

Staff of the Mist — The Queen's Seeker Swarm

Craft: Galdr Table (level 1) — Yggdrasil Wood ×10, Mandible ×10, Trophy Seeker Queen

Ability: Summons 3–5 Seekers at your aim point. Summoned Seekers fight on your side and will not attack you or your allies.

Cooldown: 20 seconds

Staff of the Ash — Fader's Fissure Strike

Craft: Galdr Table (level 2) — Blackwood ×10, Morgen Sinew ×10, Trophy Fader

Ability: Calls down 3 ground fissures at your aim point with a short warning before each eruption. Each fissure deals fire and spirit damage and leaves a burning flame that lingers briefly. Will not harm the caster.

Cooldown: 20 seconds

Installation

  • Install BepInEx if you haven't already.
  • Install Jotunn.
  • Drop StaffsOfTheForsaken.dll into BepInEx/plugins/StaffsOfTheForsaken.

Configuration

Damage values for all staves are configurable in BepInEx/config/com.youdied.staffsoftheforsaken.cfg. The file is generated on first launch. Default values are balanced for the biome level of each staff.

Compatibility

  • Multiplayer: Abilities run client-side and use standard Valheim damage calls. Should work in multiplayer but is currently only tested in singleplayer.
  • Save files: Adding or removing the mod mid-save is safe. Staves already in your inventory will remain but lose their icon if the mod is removed.

Changelog

1.0.1

  • Fixed staff names showing as raw internal tokens (e.g. $item_staff_meadows) instead of their display names in the crafting station recipe list and inventory

1.0.0

  • Initial release
  • Seven staves, one per biome boss, each requiring that boss's trophy to craft
  • All abilities aim via camera crosshair
  • Friendly-fire protection on all abilities — players and player-faction creatures are never damaged
  • Eikthyr: fixed rapid sound spam — stomp VFX and sound now fire once per cast
  • Moder: frost breath now correctly aims toward the camera/cursor target point
  • Fader: fissure eruption no longer damages

Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin

  1. The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
  2. Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
  3. Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
  4. Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.

Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file. In multiplayer, the host and every client need the same mods installed.
