Stackmaster

Turn a messy Viking inventory into a tidy, adventure-ready loadout.

Stackmaster by JStack424 brings inventory sorting, Quick Stack, and building and crafting from nearby storage into one Valheim workflow.

Stackmaster 1.3.5: Durable per-player, per-world Quick Grab reservations now stay visible beside the inventory and above the Hammer menu, feed exact additive material targets into Quick Stack, and decrement one at a time after successful placement. Quick Grab debits authoritative live chest inventories before crediting the player, with exact persistence, conservation, and rollback checks. Joe live-tested and approved the reservation controls, Hammer-menu selection and close behavior, material gathering, and chest debits before release.

About this project

I'm a Valheim-loving software engineer with an interest in mild game design. I built Stackmaster with the assistance of AI as a personal quality-of-life project: smooth out the frustrating bits, preserve the developers' intended experience, and never make progression feel cheesed. I didn't set out to build a widely used mod, but it's been lovely to see people enjoying it. If you've been using Stackmaster and enjoy it, please share any issues or requests through GitHub Issues. I keep playing, testing, and looking for further improvements, so I'll take thoughtful ideas into account.

Vanilla-plus by design

Stackmaster removes repetitive container management without adding free resources, carrying capacity, powers, cheats, or progression shortcuts. Quick Stack stays deliberate: nothing leaves your backpack just because you walk near a base, and every build or craft still consumes real materials from your inventory or accessible storage.

TL;DR

  • Automatically sort your backpack and opted-in vanilla chests.
  • Use Quick Stack to deposit matching items and replenish protected targets with one deliberate shortcut.
  • Keep durable per-player, per-world material reservations from valid Quick Grab Materials clicks, even away from supplies.
  • Build and craft using materials from accessible chests.

Controls

Inventory

| Control | Behavior |

| --- | --- |

| Open inventory | Sort movable player slots when player Auto-sort is enabled. |

| Left Alt + left-click an unprotected item | Protect it immediately, with no restocking target or dialog. |

| Left Alt + left-click any protected item | Fully unprotect it and clear its restocking target. |

| Left Alt + right-click a stackable item | Open the restocking quantity dialog. Confirming protects the item and adds or edits its target; canceling preserves the previous state. |

| Left Alt + right-click a non-stackable item | Leave its protection unchanged. Non-stackable items cannot have restocking targets. |

| Ordinary inventory clicks | Keep Valheim's normal left- and right-click behavior. |

Chests

| Control | Behavior |

| --- | --- |

| Open or close a vanilla chest | Sort that chest when its Auto-sort chest setting is enabled. |

| Left Alt + E while targeting a vanilla container | Run Quick Stack: deposit matching items and replenish protected targets. |

| Left Alt + E while a vanilla chest is open | Run Quick Stack using that chest as the target without closing it. |

Build menu

| Control | Behavior |

| --- | --- |

| Left Alt + click a build piece | Add one persistent reservation, then grab one complete material set when safely available, without closing the menu. Pieces whose localized name contains Stack or Pile are material-only: they still gather the complete set but never create a reservation. |

The modifier follows the configured Quick Stack shortcut, which uses Left Alt + E by default. While the build menu is open, its keyboard/mouse action list shows Quick Grab Materials with Left Alt + Click by default and updates that shortcut text when the configured modifiers change. Version 1.2.0 does not add a controller-specific action.

Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin

  1. The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
  2. Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
  3. Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
  4. Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.

Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file. In multiplayer, the host and every client need the same mods installed.

Install these first, or the mod will not work:
