Sorcery Redux
In Valheim, spells are tied to items: no staff in your hand, no magic. Sorcery Redux expands what a spell can be. Spells cost Eitr, train Elemental Magic through useful casts, and need no item at all.
Valheim is all about items, and we barely use chat. So why not start? Every spell has its words. Type them in chat and everyone nearby sees what you are about to cast, or press a hotkey and the words are said for you.
- Chat casting: type the spell's words (for example ljos) in chat.
- Hotkeys: one key per spell. Switch them off in the config (Enable hotkeys) if you want to cast only by chat.
Spells
| Words | Skill | Required level | Cost | Effect |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ljos | Elemental Magic | 0 | 20 Eitr | Light: torch light above you for 6 min 10 s, shown as a status effect with a timer. Recasting refreshes it. |
| ljos mikil | Elemental Magic | 13 | 40 Eitr | Great Light: blue torch light above you, 33% wider than Light, for 11 min 35 s. Replaces Light while active. |
| heil | Elemental Magic | 8 | 20 Eitr | Light Healing: heals 40 HP over 4 s (10 per second). |
| hradr | Elemental Magic | 4 | 60 Eitr | Haste: 30% faster movement for 30 s, with a green swirl and a cast sound. |
| heil mikil | Elemental Magic | 20 | 70 Eitr | Intense Healing: heals 120 HP over 4 s (30 per second). |
| galdra kapa | Elemental Magic | 14 | 50 Eitr | Arcane Cloak for 3 min: damage after armor is taken from Eitr first, then health. Eitr per damage falls from 2.0 at level 14 to 0.6 at level 100 (about 1 at level 65). The bubble appears 1.5 s after casting. Ends when your Eitr runs out, with a message on screen. |
| eldr andar | Elemental Magic | 40 | 140 Eitr | Spiritfire Barrage: 12 Yagluth-style meteor impacts in six randomized directions, with near, middle and far pairs across a 14 m radius over 2 s. Each impact hits for 120 immediate damage, refreshes a 12.7-per-tick fire burn and adds 70 spirit damage (all up to +50% at skill 100). Overlapping impacts each count. Never hits you or tamed creatures; other players only when both of you have PvP on. No icon or timer. |
Healing works like a healing mead but has no cooldown, so you can recast right away. It reuses the healing mead's drink effects. Arcane Cloak shows a faint blue bubble, built from the Staff of Protection's effects. Lights fade in and out.
Default skill gain: Light 0.33, Great Light 0.67, Light Healing 0.33, Intense Healing 1.17, Haste 1.00, Arcane Cloak 0.83. These are training amounts, not whole skill levels. Healing awards gain once per cast only when a tick actually restores health. Refreshing an active buff gives no gain, including switching between Light and Great Light. Arcane Cloak awards gain when its delayed effect starts, not for ongoing Eitr absorption. Spiritfire Barrage gives 2.33 once per cast, only if an impact hits something.
When your Elemental Magic reaches a spell's required level, a message tells you which spell you learned. The inventory Compendium (Texts tab) has a "Spellbook" entry and one entry per learned spell.
Default hotkeys: Light V, Great Light B, Light Healing H, Intense Healing J, Haste K, Arcane Cloak N, Spiritfire Barrage U. Hotkeys can be disabled entirely; chat casting always works.
You need max Eitr above 0 (eat Eitr food) to cast.
Other players see the light too if they have the mod installed.
Config
General: Enable hotkeys (default on) and Say words on hotkey cast (default on).
Every spell has its own section: hotkey, Eitr cost, required skill level, skill gain per cast and duration.
Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin
- The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
- Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
- Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
- Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.
Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file. In multiplayer, the host and every client need the same mods installed.
Install these first, or the mod will not work:
