About this mod Author’s original text
SmartPickup
SmartPickup is a Valheim mod that adds three autopickup modes:
- Normal: standard autopickup, with an optional custom range
- Smart: picks up items already in your inventory, with an option to also collect undiscovered item types
- Off: disables autopickup
Compatibility
Version 1.0.11 targets Valheim 1.0 and includes bundled ServerSync support.
Features
- Uses Valheim's normal autopickup toggle flow
- Shows the current mode in-game
- Supports a configurable pickup range from 1 to 100
- Can apply the custom range in Normal mode as well as Smart
- Can collect item types your character has never discovered while in Smart mode
Installation
- Install denikson-BepInExPack_Valheim-5.4.2333 or newer.
- Install this mod Mod Manager, r2modman, or manually.
- Launch the game once to generate the config file.
Usage
Use Valheim's Auto-Pickup toggle to cycle through Normal, Smart, and Off.
Config
Config file:
BepInEx/config/com.b0n3.smartpickup.cfg
Main settings:
- DefaultMode
- PickupRange
- ApplyCustomRangeInNormalMode
- PickUpUndiscoveredItems (default: false)
Enable General.PickUpUndiscoveredItems to collect item types your character
has never discovered, even when you are not carrying any. This uses Valheim's
saved character discovery history. Previously discovered items you have dropped,
stored, or used up still require a matching item in your inventory. Once a new
item is collected, it follows the usual Smart mode inventory rule.
The setting applies immediately. Pickup range, inventory space, carry weight,
and other pickup restrictions still apply. Normal and Off modes are unaffected.
ServerSync
Install SmartPickup on both the server and clients to synchronize
PickupRange and ApplyCustomRangeInNormalMode. ServerSync is included in
SmartPickup.dll; no separate ServerSync download is needed.
Server.LockConfiguration defaults to true. While locked, only admins can
change synchronized settings. DefaultMode, PickUpUndiscoveredItems, and
switching between Normal, Smart, and Off remain local player preferences. Your local range settings
return when you disconnect. Settings also stay local when playing solo or
joining a server without SmartPickup.
Use the same SmartPickup version on server and clients. SmartPickup remains
optional: clients without it, including older versions without ServerSync,
can still connect. Synchronization does not enforce pickup behavior on those
clients. The minimum version for participating ServerSync clients is 1.0.9.
Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin
- The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
- Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
- Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
- Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.
Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file. In multiplayer, the host and every client need the same mods installed.
Install these first, or the mod will not work:
