About this mod Author’s original text
SmartContainers (Valheim 1.0 fork)
Unofficial community port of Flueno/ZOR SmartContainers for Valheim 1.0 (Unity 6).
Original idea and design belong to Flueno / ZOR ( mod 332).
This package rebuilds and updates that mod so it loads again after the 1.0 release.
Want to quickly drop your loot? Tired of looking for the chest with a specific item-stack just to store more of it? Teach your containers to arrange items with their neighbors.
Also available. Support for this fork is handled there (see below).

Features
- Automatically sends items you put into a chest to other nearby chests that already contain the same item-stack.
- Routes same-kinded items to their siblings (example: copper ore goes to a chest that already has tin ore).
- Create custom item-groups from any combination — put carrots, stones and feathers in one box, click the button, and from then on carrots can route to a chest that has feathers.
- Optional unload button to dump configured loot from your inventory into the correct nearby chests in one click.
- Protect / favorite backpack items from Unload: Alt + Right-click (stored in itemsSkipList)
- HUD message, sound and VFX feedback when items are successfully routed.
- Multiplayer-aware options to skip or block chests currently used by other players.
How it works
When you move an item stack into a container with Ctrl + Click:
- If the current container is full or does not already have that item:
- Search nearby containers for the same item-stack and route there if there is space.
- If none found and grouping is enabled:
- Search nearby containers that contain items from a matching group (user groups, system groups, prefix/postfix patterns, or item-type groups).
In short: if a group contains your item and a nearby chest already has another member of that group, your item can go to that chest.
Controls
| Input | Action |
|---|---|
| Ctrl + Click | Move stack and trigger SmartContainers routing |
| Ctrl + L + Click | Same as above, but also prints the item name to the F5 console |
| Alt + Right-click (backpack) | Toggle protect / favorite — Unload (>>) will not move that item type |
| Chest UI button + | Create / merge custom item-groups from the opened chest |
| Chest UI button >> | Unload configured inventory items into nearby chests (if Unload is enabled) |
| Shift + click + | Add current chest item names to unload allow-list |
| Ctrl + click + | Add current chest item names to unload skip-list (protect) |
Gamepad bindings are configurable (create-group, unload filters, etc.).

Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin
- The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
- Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
- Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
- Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.
Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file. In multiplayer, the host and every client need the same mods installed.
Install these first, or the mod will not work:
