About this mod Author’s original text

Simple(r) Meads

Valheim brews a mead for nearly everything now. Healing, stamina, eitr, frost, poison, speed on

land, speed in water — all of it vanilla. So most of Simple Meads got deleted.

What is left is six things the game still has no answer for. You have hauled copper the long way

round. You have hit the ground after a bad fight and watched half your skills drain away. You have

spent a whole rainy night Wet because the rain does not care that you have a roof somewhere else.

Six meads. One for each of those evenings.

The meads

Tonic of Kvasir

Kvasir's blood made the mead of wisdom, and the Æsir have been drinking it ever since. A mouthful

sharpens the eye: a day's work teaches what a season otherwise would. Drink it before a long

session at the chopping block or a night of swinging at rocks, and come out the other side further

ahead than you had any right to be.

Mead of Mimir

Mimir's head kept its counsel long after his body was lost. So will yours.

Drink this before the bad idea, not after. March into the fog, take the fight you should not

take, go back for the cart. Die if you must — your skills come out with you.

Bifrost Mead

The burning bridge carries what it is given.

Step into a portal with ore on your back and the game will tell you no. This one brews what a

portal is made of — greydwarf eyes and raw power — and the portal stops objecting. The long sail

home with a hold full of metal becomes a short walk.

Soft Tread Mead

Mine, chop and walk without a sound carrying. Work a copper vein in the Black Forest without

ringing the dinner bell for every greydwarf in the valley.

Silence is all it buys. Anything that looks your way still sees you exactly as well as it

always did — so if they see you, run.

Hearthfire Mead

Carries the warmth of a hearth out into the weather. Wet clothes dry on you as you walk, and the

rain stops mattering for a while.

Comforts of Home

A roof, a fire and a bed, bottled. Ten minutes of Rested, standing anywhere — the far side of

the map, the bottom of a crypt, the deck of a boat at midnight.

Not an imitation of Rested. The real one.

One at a time

Kvasir, Mimir, Bifrost and Soft Tread are utility meads. One at a time, and when it runs out

there is a two minute wait before the next.

Hearthfire and Comforts of Home sit outside that rule — drink them whenever, alongside anything.

Changing the recipes

If a recipe is wrong for your run, change it:

BepInEx/config/elric.SimplerMeads.recipes.yml

Everything starts commented out and shows the current recipe. Uncomment a mead to take it over.

Anything you leave alone keeps following the mod, including later balance changes — so you are not

frozen on today's numbers by editing one line.

smr_base_kvasir:

ingredients:

Honey: 10

Thistle: 10

Get a name wrong and the log says which mead and which word. Restart after editing.

Settings

BepInEx/config/elric.SimplerMeads.cfg, or F1 in game with Configuration Manager.

| Setting | What it does |

| --- | --- |

| Duration | How long each mead lasts. One per mead. |

| SkillGainBonus | How much faster Kvasir trains skills. 2 means three times normal. |

| Utility Cooldown | The wait after a utility mead wears off. |

| LogSkillGains | Writes every skill gain to the log, so you can check Kvasir is earning its keep. Noisy — leave it off. |

| LogNoise | Writes how far each noise you make actually carries. With Soft Tread up it should read 0. Noisier still. |

On a server running this mod, the gameplay settings follow the server and an admin can change them

in game without anyone editing a file. The two debug settings stay yours.

Recipes follow the server too. Connect to one running this mod and its recipes replace yours

for that session, so everyone pays the same price. Your file is untouched and comes back when

you play alone. Fermenter yield is the one thing that does not travel.

Multiplayer

Anyone who wants the meads needs the mod. The server does not — but if it runs it, everyo

Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin

  1. The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
  2. Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
  3. Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
  4. Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.

Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file. In multiplayer, the host and every client need the same mods installed.
