Auto-equip your preferred shield with one-handed weapons. Remember your selection across sessions, storage, and death recovery.
About this mod Author’s original text
Automatically equip your preferred shield when you draw a one-handed weapon.
Features
- Choose a shield with a middle-click in your inventory.
- Automatically equip it alongside a one-handed weapon.
- Optionally unequip it when you put the weapon away.
- Remember the same shield across sessions, storage, and death recovery.
Installation
Requires Valheim 1.0.12 and BepInExPack_Valheim 5.4.2350.
- Install the dependencies in your r2modman profile.
- Download the package from GitHub Actions,
or build the project using the instructions below.
- Close Valheim and copy ShieldMeBruhReforged.dll into your profile's
BepInEx/plugins/ShieldMeBruhReforged/ directory.
- Launch with Start modded.
Disable or remove the original ShieldMeBruh first. Reforged starts with fresh
settings and shield selection.
Build and compatibility checks run in GitHub Actions.
Controls
Middle-click a shield in your inventory to select it. Click it again to
deselect. A shield marker shows your selection.
Auto-equip and auto-unequip can be toggled in the mod's BepInEx configuration.
Your character remembers the selected shield's ID. Storing it or dying keeps the
preference; it resumes when that shield returns, even in another inventory slot.
Only deselecting or choosing another shield changes the preference. These IDs are
plain-text custom data that vanilla does not use.
Build
Requires.NET SDK 8 and the game dependencies above.
GitHub Actions builds and checks the plugin automatically. Pushing a version tag
creates a GitHub release with the built ZIP and publishes it.
Use bumpp to update versions and create the tag.

Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin
- The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
- Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
- Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
- Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.
Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file. In multiplayer, the host and every client need the same mods installed.
Install these first, or the mod will not work:
