SentryBallista Ymiron
Eight buildable ballistas, one per biome, that defend your base by themselves: they shoot hostile creatures that come near, never run out of bolts.
About this mod Author’s original text
SentryBallista-Ymiron
Eight new ballistas for Valheim, one for each biome, that defend your base by themselves. Build one,
and it turns towards any hostile creature that comes into range, leads it, allows for the drop of the
bolt and shoots. They never run out of bolts.
Every ballista has its own model, built from scratch, that gets sturdier and richer biome after biome.

The models
- Meadows: three poles lashed with hide, a big bent bow.
- Black Forest: squared tripod, bronze caps and claw.
- Swamp and Mountain: a torsion ballista (two rope springs in a banded frame) on a braced post; silver
studs and fittings in the Mountain.
- Plains: a black metal mantlet in front of the frame.
- Mistlands: yggdrasil wood on a black marble plinth with glowing blue Dvergr runes.
- Ashlands: blackwood and flametal on a grausten plinth cracked with embers.
- Deep North: frostwood with gold fittings and a plank mantlet, ice crystals around the plinth.
How they behave
- Hammer, next to the vanilla ballista, with the right crafting station nearby.
- They shoot only hostile creatures: never players, tamed animals or villagers, never wild animals
(deer, boars, hares...), Dvergr only once they are angry. Flying creatures are shot too.
- They need to see their target. By default the bolts fly through your own buildings and the ballistas see
over them, so one standing behind a palisade still defends it.
- Creatures can attack and break them, like any piece. Repair them with the hammer.
- Use switches a ballista off (it points its nose down) and on again. Needs access to the ward.
- While placing one, or when you hover it with the hammer, its range is drawn on the ground.
Multiplayer
Everybody needs the mod: a player without it cannot see the ballistas. The player who owns the piece
picks the target and shoots; everybody sees it turn and hears it fire. If the server hands a ballista to a
player without the mod (it would never shoot), a player with the mod nearby takes it over. Players with the
mod greet each other; one without it is named in the chat.
Config
BepInEx/config/ymiron.valheim.sentryballista.cfg (reloaded while the game runs):
- General: firing arc, turning speed, lowest and highest aim, whether bolts fly through buildings,
whether sleeping creatures and bosses are shot, bolt speed, knockback.
- One section per ballista: enabled, cost, crafting station, health (next world load), damage, range,
seconds between shots.
Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin
- The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
- Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
- Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
- Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.
Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file. In multiplayer, the host and every client need the same mods installed.
Install these first, or the mod will not work:
