About this mod Author’s original text

RoleplayNPCs

Give your Valheim settlement a daily life. Create residents with their own homes, work, conversations and relationships.

Playtest build: movement, animations and multiplayer are still being refined.

Features

  • Daily routines: work, sleep, meals, baths, sheltered breaks and optional social hours.
  • Professions: Trader, Blacksmith, Tavernkeeper, Fisherman, Patron, Harlot and Skald.
  • Resident personalities: persistent traits, moods, friendships, rivalries and spouse bonds influence dialogue.
  • Settlement life: daily shops, tavern table service, fishing and resource upkeep using eligible stored supplies.
  • Customization: names, appearance, cosmetic outfits, areas and schedules through the Settlement Charter.
  • English and Russian dialogue, with optional server-side text overrides.

Residents are civilians. Their equipment and work gestures are cosmetic; routines operate in loaded areas.

Getting started

  • Install BepInExPack Valheim and RoleplayNPCs through your mod manager. For a local build in Gale, import the release ZIP; for manual installation, put the DLL in BepInEx/plugins/RoleplayNPCs.
  • Use the same mod version on the server and every client. Close Valheim before updating and keep world backups.
  • As host/server administrator, craft a Settlement Charter with 2 Leather scraps + 1 Coal. Open it from your inventory or hotbar.
  • Summon a resident and assign a home. Add a profession/workplace, bed and social area as needed. The journal also manages hours, appearance and outfits.

Interact with residents for conversation and available profession services. Most setup is handled by the journal; console commands are optional.

At home, any NPC spouse can occasionally offer a free simple cooked meal to a hungry seated partner with a clear raised dining surface. No storage is required or consumed. Each NPC can give at most one meal per world day; a player must have a free food slot and receive food they are not already eating. Kitchen and bath preferences are optional; automatic discovery works without them.

Ask an awake Skald to perform for 5 coins, once per day. Payment is taken immediately, then they walk to their stage; an unsuccessful start is refunded. Listen nearby for at least a minute of the completed performance to gain 20 minutes of Inspiration: x1.5 / x1.75 / x2 skill learning, based on their mood. Two bilingual songs use a lyre and acoustic music; three stories keep Valheim's music playing. The stage is used only for requested performances.

Good mood improves stock and extends Harlot visits' Rested bonus. Trader and tavernkeeper better-stock requests cost 100 coins for the next day; goods stay within boss progression. Spouses receive shop stock free.

Useful admin commands

Aim at a resident, or add their name after the command.

| Command | Purpose |

| --- | --- |

| rpnpc_audit [name] | Check routes, setup and activity problems. |

| rpnpc_dialogue_debug [name] | Inspect mood, trait and dialogue choices. |

| rpnpc_rescue [name] | Bring an eligible nearby resident to safe floor beside you. |

| rpnpc_debug | Toggle the local movement overlay. |

Settings and help

General settings are in the BepInEx config. Resident assignments are saved in the world. Built-in dialogue works without configuration; custom text is optional.

The download includes NPC_BEHAVIOUR.md for detailed rules and commands, and README-dialogue.md for editing conversations.

Host recovery archives are stored in BepInEx/config/RoleplayNPCs/archives. Copy them separately when moving a world to another profile or server; keep normal world backups too.

For bug reports, include the mod version, host/client role, resident's intended activity and the relevant BepInEx/LogOutput.log excerpt.

Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin

  1. The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
  2. Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
  3. Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
  4. Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.

Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file. In multiplayer, the host and every client need the same mods installed.
