RecipeSync

Tired of making sure everyone has picked up every item at least once to unlock recipes? RecipeSync keeps everyone's recipe log in sync on a world. When one person picks something up, it unlocks for the whole group, including players who are offline at the time.

What gets shared

| Log entry | Why it matters |

|---|---|

| Items you've picked up | This is what unlocks most recipes. |

| Known recipes and build pieces | Crafting recipes, build-hammer pieces, cultivator and hoe pieces, food. |

| Crafting stations you've seen, with their level | Some recipes stay hidden until you've been near a high enough station level. |

Entries are only ever added. Nothing is removed from anyone's log, and station levels are only raised to the highest level anyone has seen.

How it works

  • When you join, the mod sends your whole log and receives the world's shared log, including everything found while you were offline.
  • While you play, it checks your log about once a second. When something new appears (a pickup, a new station, another mod adding a recipe), it sends only that new entry to everyone.
  • The server keeps the log for each world in BepInEx/config/RecipeSync/_.txt, so players who were offline catch up the next time they join.
  • Combined unlocks work. If one player found copper and another found tin, everyone unlocks bronze.
  • When you receive something, you get a small top-left message like "Shared recipe log: +3 recipes/pieces, 2 items".

Installation

Install it with r2modman (or another mod manager) on:

  • Every player's game.
  • The server. Install it on the dedicated server. If you host from your own game, the host's install covers this.

BepInExPack_Valheim is installed automatically as a dependency.

What if someone doesn't have it?

It won't cause errors, kicks or version-mismatch blocks.

  • Server without the mod: players who have it still sync with each other while they're online. The offline catch-up only works when the server has the mod.
  • Player without the mod: their log isn't synced, and nothing else changes for them.

Compatibility

  • Modded items and recipes work automatically. The log stores the game's internal names (such as $item_wood), the same way vanilla saves them, so items from Jotunn, ItemManager and other content mods are treated like vanilla items. If you remove a mod later, its entries stay in the log and don't cause errors.
  • No Harmony patches. The mod never changes game code, so it can't conflict with other mods' patches. It reads and writes the log fields directly and asks the game to refresh the recipe list the same way it does after a pickup.
  • No dependencies besides BepInExPack_Valheim. It doesn't need Jotunn or ServerSync.
  • Future game updates: if an update renames the fields the mod uses, it logs one clear error and stops syncing. It won't crash or corrupt anything.

One side effect

In vanilla, "player-based raids" check which items each player has picked up. Because items are shared, a raid that any player has unlocked can happen near everyone. This only matters if your world uses the player-based raids world modifier. To avoid it, set Items = false, which also stops item-based recipe unlocks from being shared.

Configuration

The config file is BepInEx/config/Rock3t.RecipeSync.cfg, created on first launch. You can also edit it in r2modman's config editor or in-game with ConfigurationManager.

| Setting | Default | Description |

|---|---|---|

| [Sync] Items | true | Share picked-up items/materials. |

| [Sync] RecipesAndPieces | true | Share known recipes and build pieces. |

| [Sync] CraftingStations | true | Share discovered stations and their levels. |

| [General] ShowNotifications | true | Show the top-left message when you receive entries. |

These settings only affect the player who changes them.

Resetting a world's shared log

Stop the server and delete that world's file in BepInEx/config/RecipeSync. Players keep what's already in their own logs. The next time they j

Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin

  1. The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
  2. Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
  3. Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
  4. Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.

Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file. In multiplayer, the host and every client need the same mods installed.

Dependencies

Install these first, or the mod will not work:
