RecallTames
Admin commands for safely recalling existing tamed creatures from anywhere in the world.

RecallTames
RecallTames adds admin-only console commands for Valheim servers and local worlds. It can find existing tamed creatures saved in the world's ZDO data, including creatures in unloaded areas, and recall them near the administrator without deleting, cloning, or respawning them.
The mod was built for Valheim 1.0.x, BepInExPack Valheim, and compatibility with taming mods such as Meldurson-LetMeTameYou.
Main Features
- Finds tamed creatures from world ZDO data, not only currently loaded Character instances.
- Teleports the same existing ZDO instead of spawning a replacement.
- Keeps creature name, level/stars, tame state, inventory/custom mod data, AI state data, and owner data intact.
- Supports all creature prefabs that are marked as tamed and can be resolved through ZNetScene.
- Works with vanilla and modded creatures.
- Filters by prefab name.
- Filters by visible star count.
- Places recalled creatures in rings around the admin instead of stacking them in one spot.
- Creates JSON backups before teleporting.
- Supports undo from the latest backup.
- Uses server-side validation for dedicated servers.
Installation
Install with r2modman Mod Manager, or manually place:
RecallTames.dll
inside:
BepInEx/plugins/RecallTames/
Recommended multiplayer setup:
- Install on the dedicated server.
- Install on the administrator's client.
- Other players do not need the mod unless they also want to use the command.
Commands
Open the Valheim console and use:
recalltames
recalltames help
recalltames list
recalltames count
recalltames count Wolf
recalltames count Wolf 2
recalltames preview all
recalltames preview Wolf
recalltames preview Wolf 2
recalltames all
recalltames all stars 2
recalltames all confirm
recalltames Wolf
recalltames Boar 2
recalltames Troll
recalltames Serpent here
recalltames Serpent force
recalltames undo
recalltames undo confirm
Prefab names are used for commands. For example, use Boar, Wolf, Lox, Troll, Serpent, or the exact modded prefab name shown by:
recalltames list
Commands are case-insensitive.
Star Filtering
The number after a prefab name means visible stars, not internal Valheim level.
Examples:
recalltames Boar 2
Recalls only 2-star Boars.
recalltames Wolf 1
Recalls only 1-star Wolves.
recalltames Troll 0
Recalls only no-star Trolls.
Valheim stores these internally as:
- 0 stars = level 1
- 1 star = level 2
- 2 stars = level 3
RecallTames handles this conversion automatically.
Safety Backups
Before teleporting creatures, RecallTames writes a backup JSON file to:
BepInEx/config/RecallTames/backups/
The backup includes:
- ZDOID
- prefab name
- old position
- new position
- tamed name, if present
- level
Use:
recalltames undo
to restore the latest moved creatures to their previous positions. Missing/dead ZDOs are skipped and reported.

LetMeTameYou Compatibility
RecallTames does not patch taming, breeding, AI, pregnancy, feeding, or command behavior. It only reads already existing tame state from ZDO data.
If a creature tamed by LetMeTameYou is stored as a normal tamed creature with tamed = true, RecallTames should find it.
Verified against local Meldurson-LetMeTameYou 0.0.3.
Known Limitations
- Water-like creatures, such as Serpent, are treated conservatively. Use here near safe water or force if you knowingly accept the risk.
- The mod does not load remote zones just to test collision. Placement is spread in rings and uses current terrain height when available.
- For ZDOs owned by another network peer, RecallTames does not take ownership. It moves the ZDO, marks data dirty, and asks Valheim
Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin
- The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
- Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
- Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
- Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.
Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file. In multiplayer, the host and every client need the same mods installed.
Install these first, or the mod will not work:
