About this mod Author’s original text
QuickSlotDeathGuard
Companion mod for GearSlots (jg224). Keeps items in GearSlots' Quick
slots 1-3 from being lost on death, matching the protection GearSlots
already gives to the Head/Chest/Legs/Cape/Utility/Ammo slots.
Install
GearSlots is client-side only, so this mod must go on every player's
client who uses GearSlots - installing it only on the server does
nothing, same as GearSlots itself.
Manual (any mod manager / vanilla BepInEx): unzip this package and drop
the whole folder into BepInEx/plugins.
Gale: import this.zip as a local mod for your Valheim profile (Gale's
mod list -> Import local mod, or drag-and-drop the zip onto the profile),
or just extract it into BepInEx/plugins/ inside your profile folder like
above.
Requirements
- BepInExPack_Valheim
- GearSlots (jg224) 0.5.2+
What it does
GearSlots' own death-handling code calls vanilla Inventory.RemoveUnequipped()
on the Gear inventory and the Quick inventory identically. That method keeps
only items flagged "equipped" - GearSlots marks Head/Chest/Legs/Cape/
Utility/Ammo items as equipped (so they survive), but Quick 1-3 items are
never flagged equipped, so they get stripped on death like loose inventory.
This mod runs a high-priority Harmony prefix on Player.CreateTombStone
that pulls Quick 1-3 items out before GearSlots' own logic runs, then puts
them back once tombstone creation is done - so nothing in Quick 1-3 ever
reaches the grave.
Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin
- The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
- Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
- Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
- Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.
Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file. In multiplayer, the host and every client need the same mods installed.
Install these first, or the mod will not work:
