About this mod Author’s original text

PingWheel

A team ping system for Valheim, in the style of team games: aim, press a key,

and everyone sees what you mean, where it is and how far away it is. Hold the

key to open a radial menu and say what you mean: attack, come here,

attention or danger.

Everyone who should see pings needs this mod, the same version (0.2.x).

Players without it simply won't see anything, and nothing breaks for them.

A server does not need it.

Features

  • One key, two gestures. Tap to ping whatever is under your crosshair.

Hold (0.2 s) for a four-sector wheel, move the mouse to pick a category,

release to send. Release in the middle for a plain auto ping, Esc cancels.

You can keep walking while the wheel is open; only the camera holds still.

  • Knows what you pinged. Creature, resource node, building piece,

pickable item, or plain ground, each with its own color. Names come from the

game and are translated on each player's own client.

  • Enemies only, if you like. By default only hostile creatures count as

creature pings (tamed animals, wildlife, players and traders ping as plain

ground); each other kind can be switched off too.

  • Follows creatures. A pinged creature keeps its ping above its head as it

moves, with a portrait (its trophy icon) beside the label.

  • Readable at any range. The label (who, what, live distance) is drawn on

the HUD, so it stays sharp through fog and at distance, and it isn't drawn

over the map, inventory or menus.

  • Off-screen arrows on the screen edge for pings out of view or behind you.
  • Map pins for every ping, removed when it expires.
  • Sounds. A short cue per category, following the game's SFX volume.
  • Anti-spam. One live ping per player, 1.5 s cooldown (yours and

incoming), with a message if you press too early.

  • English and Russian category names, chosen by the game's language.
  • Key clash warning. If your ping key is also used by the game itself, the

mod says so (once, in game and in the log) instead of silently double-firing.

Controls

The default key is Z (tap to ping, hold for the wheel), which vanilla

doesn't use. Change PingKey in BepInEx/config/com.pingwheel.valheim.cfg

(or live in the in-game settings menu if you use Configuration Manager, F1).

Avoid G, T (emote wheel), R (draw/sheathe weapon) and the middle mouse

button (special attack): the game already uses them. If you'd rather use the

mouse, Mouse3 (side button 1) is free too. Letter keys are read as Latin key

codes, so with a non-Latin layout (e.g. Russian) the key may not react: switch

layout or rebind. The mod warns you in game if your key clashes with one the

game uses. Gamepad is not supported yet.

Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin

  1. The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
  2. Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
  3. Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
  4. Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.

Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file. In multiplayer, the host and every client need the same mods installed.
