Password Protected Storage
Tired of your friends stealing your loot? Introducing Password Protected Storage for multiplayer & dedicated servers!
About this mod Author’s original text
Password Protected Storage
Tired of your friends “borrowing” your loot? Personal chest not enough? Want a stash only the people with the password can open?
This mod turns existing chests you list in the config into password-locked storage. No new furniture. No fancy asset pack. Just locks.
⚠️ Important
- Do not use with Guild Structures — that mod already includes password storage. Use one, not both.
- Does nothing until you add prefabs in the CFG. Empty lists = zero effect.
- Does not add new storage. You pick existing prefab names (e.g. piece_chest_wood).
Optional tip: use WackyDatabase to clone a chest, then list only the clone — so normal chests stay normal and only your “vault” clones get passwords.
Features
- SHIFT+E — owner sets / changes / removes password (empty = remove)
- E — owner always opens; others enter the password once
- Grants stick on the piece (survive reconnect & server restart)
- While passworded: only the owner can de-hammer
- Hover shows Owner / Permitted (light green labels)
- Clear center messages (set / wrong password / access granted / remove denied)
- Dedicated + Steam listen-host friendly
- Prefab lists server-synced
- CFG live reload on host/server (edit + save, no restart)
- Optional World Edit Commands — readable PP_* fields in data dump
Install
- Install on server and every client
- Launch once → BepInEx/config/com.rdmods.passwordprotectedstorage.cfg
- Fill Exact Names and/or Name Contains, save (or restart)
Controls
| Who | Action |
|-----|--------|
| Owner | SHIFT+E set/change/remove password |
| Owner | E open anytime |
| Others | E → enter password once |
| Anyone | de-hammer freely if no password |
| Non-owner | cannot de-hammer while passworded |
CFG Guide
File: BepInEx/config/com.rdmods.passwordprotectedstorage.cfg
| Setting | What it does |
|---------|----------------|
| Enabled | Master on/off |
| Debug Logging | Extra log spam while testing — leave off normally |
| Lock Configuration | Clients can’t override server settings (keep on) |
| Exact Names | Exact prefab names, comma-separated — e.g. piece_chest_wood |
| Name Contains | Match any prefab with that word — e.g. chest |
Prefab lists are server-synced. On a dedicated/listen host, edit + save the CFG and it reloads live — no restart needed.
Don’t know a prefab name? Place one, check the log, or start with a known name like piece_chest_wood.

Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin
- The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
- Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
- Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
- Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.
Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file. In multiplayer, the host and every client need the same mods installed.
Install these first, or the mod will not work:
