Njoror_FairWinds
Njoror_FairWinds is a lightweight mod designed to improve sailing with fair winds, ocean weather modulation, and sea serpent encounter controls.
About the Name: Njörðr
In Norse mythology, Njörðr (Njord) is the revered Vanir god of the wind, the sea, and prosperous seafaring voyages, prayed to by Vikings for favorable winds and calm waters. In this mod, Njörðr watches over your fleet—deflecting frustrating headwinds into fair sailing breezes, balancing oceanic storms, and regulating sea serpents.
Features
- Fair Winds & Headwind Mitigation: Intelligently deflects dead-ahead headwinds into tackable crosswinds or broad reaches while sailing.
- Minimum Wind Speed Scaling: Prevents dead calms from stalling voyages by guaranteeing a steady baseline sailing breeze.
- Ocean Weather Tuning: Dynamically modulates the frequency and duration of thunderstorms, rain, and clear skies.
- Sea Serpent Controls: Customizes encounter rates, spawn timers, and daytime serpent availability.
Installation Type
- Location: Must be installed on both the Server and the Client.
- Enforcement: Client versions must match the server version.
Manual Install
- Ensure BepInEx and Jotunn are installed.
- Extract the downloaded.zip archive.
- Copy Njoror_FairWinds.dll into your Valheim/BepInEx/plugins/ folder.
- Launch the game once to generate the default configuration file.
Configuration
The configuration file is automatically created at BepInEx/config/com.bigai.njoror_fairwinds.cfg after running the game once.

Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin
- The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
- Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
- Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
- Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.
Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file. In multiplayer, the host and every client need the same mods installed.
Install these first, or the mod will not work:
