Multiverse Guardian introduces a fully custom mob with brand-new assets that adds an intermittent but immersive layer of danger to the game. It is designed to discourage excessive portal usage especially cross-server portals while remaining challenging, fair, and winnable.

This mod supports single-player, multiplayer, and cross-server play, with server-synced configuration for consistent behavior.

Behavior

The Multiverse Guardian spawns randomly based on administrator configuration and server sync timing. While its appearance is intermittent, once spawned it becomes persistent, hunting a specific player until either the player dies or the Guardian is killed.

Once the Guardian is active:

Regular portals are disabled for the targeted player, preventing portal-based escape

Cross-server portals are still usable, but leaving the server will destroy the Guardian

When the player returns to that server, the Guardian will respawn and resume the hunt, ensuring escape is only temporary

The Guardian:

put base damage to.5 for roughly 6 dmg(need to finish balancing)

Frequently teleports, often behind the targeted player

Chains players who attempt to escape by swimming or climbing beyond allowed height or depth

Can only be damaged by the player it is targeting

Includes an optional berserk mode that prevents hiding inside buildings by destroying structures to reach the player

Portals & Purpose

*note when using cross server portals, turn on prompt before teleport, there is a glitch that throws you back and forth between servers, still trying to figure that one out.

The Guardian exists to add meaningful consequences to portal travel without making it unusable.

It can be configured to trigger:

Only from cross-server portals

From all portals

From specific portals only

Configuration

Nearly all aspects are customizable and administrator-controlled, including spawn timing, movement speed, teleport behavior, chain limits, damage, health, and difficulty scaling. All settings are server-synced.

Intended Use

The Multiverse Guardian is designed to be immersive and dangerous, making each encounter tense and memorable. Its intermittent spawning and persistent pursuit make it especially well-suited for role-playing servers, hardcore worlds, and narrative-driven experiences.

Incompatibilities

Do not use mob leveling or difficulty-scaling mods.

These interfere with the Guardian’s internal scaling system and will break balance.

Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin

  1. The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
  2. Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
  3. Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
  4. Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.

Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file. In multiplayer, the host and every client need the same mods installed.
