Meat Crimes

Your friends are a renewable resource.

Every player death drops 2 Meat beside the normal death location. Cook it into three suspiciously nutritious meals. Suicide farming is a feature.

Food

| Recipe | Ingredients | Servings | Cauldron | Health | Stamina | Healing | Duration |

| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |

| Rest in Peas | 1 Meat, 2 carrots, 1 mushroom | 1 | Level 1 | 75 | 28 | 3 HP/tick | 30 min |

| Community Potluck | 2 Meat, 2 boar meat, 2 turnips, 2 onions | 2 | Level 3 | 90 | 90 | 5 HP/tick | 30 min |

| The Last Supper | 4 Meat, 2 oat flour, 2 lingonberries, 2 sap | 2 | Level 3 | 120 | 120 | 8 HP/tick | 40 min |

These are initial food bonuses, with normal Valheim food decay. No dish grants eitr. Rest in Peas is inexpensive early food, Community Potluck is a powerful midgame meal, and The Last Supper uses northern ingredients for end-game progression.

Features

  • Two Meat on every player death, including PvP, environmental deaths and repeated deaths with an empty inventory. No cooldown or anti-farming rules.
  • Normal tombstone and inventory-loss rules are preserved. The Meat drops separately, and anyone can pick it up—including its donor.
  • Picking up Meat teaches all three recipes. You still need the ingredients and correct cauldron level to craft them.
  • Meat uses a pale recolor of bear meat. The meals reuse turnip stew, serpent stew and a darkened piquant pie's art.
  • Meat floats, stacks to 20, weighs 1 and can pass through portals. Raw Meat is an ingredient only.
  • All meals stack to 20 and are ordinary portable food items. Potluck and The Last Supper each produce two servings, not placeable feasts.
  • Optional cosmetic effects do not remove food buffs or apply gameplay penalties.

Requirements and installation

Install on the dedicated server AND every player's client. All copies must be the same mod version. Solo and locally hosted games use the same package.

Requires BepInExPack Valheim 5.4.2350 and Jötunn 2.30.0 or compatible newer releases. The mod manager installs the declared dependencies automatically.

With r2modman or Mod Manager, install Meat Crimes and launch the modded profile. For manual installation, place MeatCrimes.dll in BepInEx/plugins/MeatCrimes/ after installing the dependencies.

For a dedicated server, stop the server, install the same DLL and dependencies, and restart it. Update the shared client profile after the server update.

Configuration

After the first modded launch, BepInEx/config/bobk.meatcrimes.cfg contains:

[Cosmetics]

PlayEatingEffects = true

Set this to false to stop your own meals from triggering cosmetic effects. It does not change food stats and does not mute reactions triggered by other players. Gameplay values are fixed for this release.

Compatibility and testing status

Version 0.1.6 is compiled against Valheim 1.0.12 / Steam build 25253764 and Jötunn 2.30.0. Local testing has confirmed item spawning, pickup, recipe discovery, cosmetic effects. Dedicated-server behavior still needs verification. No claim is made yet about general compatibility with other death, inventory or food mods, or older Valheim releases.

In a test world, the read-only console command meatcrimes_check checks item registration, recipes, icons and effect assets.

Back up saves before adding or removing mods that introduce saved items. Removing this mod while its items or food buffs exist can cause those items/buffs to disappear when saves are loaded.

Credits

Valheim and its original art, models and sounds belong to Iron Gate. Game assets are referenced and recolored at runtime; none are bundled in this package. Built with BepInEx, Harmony and Jötunn. This is an unofficial mod.

Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin

  1. The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
  2. Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
  3. Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
  4. Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.

Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file. In multiplayer, the host and every client need the same mods installed.
