McNoHungryPets

v1.0.0·Updated 2026-09-13

Tamed creatures never get hungry. Configurable: tamed only, or just stretch how long they stay fed after eating.

About this mod Author’s original text

McNoHungryPets

Tamed creatures never get hungry in Valheim.

The problem

In vanilla the "fed" state is short — between 30 and 600 seconds depending on the

creature. After that the animal is hungry, stops regenerating health and stops breeding,

and you have to refill the pen by hand or with a feeder mod.

What this mod does

It answers "not hungry" for the target creatures, instead of touching inventories or

adding structures. No food is consumed and no chest is needed.

Configuration

BepInEx/config/joaorodrigues.valheim.mcnohungrypets.cfg

| Option | Default | What it does |

|---|---|---|

| Enabled | true | Enables the mod. With false everything returns to vanilla |

| TamedOnly | true | Only already tamed creatures stop getting hungry. Taming still requires feeding, like vanilla. With false, taming also progresses without feeding |

| OverrideFedDuration | false | Conservative alternative: keeps the hunger mechanic and only stretches how long a creature stays fed |

| FedDurationSeconds | 86400 | Seconds of satiety when OverrideFedDuration is true. 86400 = one real day |

The two modes are exclusive: with OverrideFedDuration = true, hunger removal is off and

the stretched duration applies instead.

Side effect you should know about

Breeding in Valheim requires the creature to not be hungry. With hunger removed,

animals accumulate love points continuously and breed much faster than in vanilla.

The game does have its own brake — Procreation.Procreate() counts nearby adults and

offspring and stops once m_maxCreatures is reached for that prefab in range — so it is

not unbounded. But pens fill to that ceiling far quicker. Keep pens small, collect the

offspring, or use OverrideFedDuration with a moderate value.

Multiplayer

Every player who wants the effect needs the mod. Installing it only on a dedicated

server is not enough: hunger is also evaluated on the client that owns the creature,

and in Valheim that is usually the nearest player, not the server. If your case is a

dedicated server with vanilla clients, look for a server-side-only solution.

Compatibility

  • Valheim 1.0.12 (network 40)
  • BepInEx 5.4.2350
  • Works alongside auto-feeding mods, though they become pointless — the animals never

get hungry to begin with.

How it works inside

Tameable.IsHungry() compares the last feeding timestamp, stored in the ZDO, against

m_fedDuration. The mod uses two Harmony postfixes: one on IsHungry returning false

for the target creatures, and one on Tameable.Awake for the stretched duration mode.

Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin

  1. The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
  2. Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
  3. Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
  4. Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.

Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file. In multiplayer, the host and every client need the same mods installed.
